The way the bastard of iragbiji is going, 2027 seems to be too far. This man might declare oduduwa republic before his 4 years ends.

The worst president in the history of Nigeria. I like the way he is dealing with North sha, because some of their leaders connived to foist him on Nigerians against all odds. Today, dude has quietly destroyed every fabric of Northern economy and he continues to crush them.
is it not better To be born a bastard and rise to become the president of the most populous black nation on earth than you who is not a bastard but useless to himself in life?

I hate tinubu but, NEC with the state governors and double edged swords who have not spoken or opposed the hike in petroleum prices, electricity tarrif and high cost of living.
They have never voiced out against all the evils of this administration.
But the worst politicians on earth are southern governors, they are weaklings, and mumus of northern politicians, they don't have any agenda for southern region

When you borrow monies from IMF and WORLD BANK, they'll make you payback through tax , Kenya for example, that was the reason they riot, they are testing Nigeria too, to see what comes out of us, they know our leaders will squandered the money, all they want to achieve is to further control our economy through "indirect rule" and by so we won't think of industrialization or anything good, since there is money, what do you as a govt want again?, enjoy the loot and your people will pay through tax, turn blind eyes to their plight and arrest any one who opposed you.
It's a template they give African leaders. Reduce purchasing power, through currency devaluation, hence your people will find it hard to leave the country but to succumb to your rule and beg for mercy.

pls the small tax that Nigerians are paying, what have we achieved with it? Aside the high stanadard of living that politicians enjoy from the revenue, what else can we brag about?
Our roads are in terrible states all over south, we dig bore holes, our hospitals, even the small ones that we have are in terrible state.
Some of u here justifies nonsense. Nigeria's problem is structural and not all these tax. If we dont attend to the structural problems and turn Nigeria into true federal states like the US or multi nation state like the UK, we are all wasting our time.
Nigerians pay negligible tax. That is what you don't understand. They pay very little for utilities, like power supply, also.

Whereas paying utility bill gives nation worldwide the money to maintain, undate and continue to improve utilities like power supply etal. Not the case in Nigeria.

Let us face it, Tinubu has a good history of efficient collection of tax and then putting such to judicious use in Lagos. We can at least give him the benefit of the doubt and not judge by what others have failed to do.

Efficient and increased collection of taxes will significantly improve your standard of living.

You pay fairly high taxes in the best nations of the world, with excellent Infrastructure and healthcare etal, that are collected efficiently.

Same must be birthed here. Nigeria has been living in the 16th century under past President. Tinubu is trying hard to advance us into the 21st century where others have reached.
The ones they have been collecting from yester years how has it better many Nigerians?

What I see is more money to steal and pocket for the betterment of themselves, party members and family. The is issue of corruption is not yet addressed so the money will never be used for the right thing.

Forget all these stories. There's no connection between having world best standard tax policies or whatever you can call it to having a world class standard of living.....This is absolutely impossible in Nigeria.
A place where politicians are bigger that government institutions that are supposedly to be independent,a place where the rich and wealthy are bigger than institutions that are supposed to remand their in prison,a place where corrupt politicians who occupy government positions and institutions are not accountable and can't be held accountable for mismanagement of public funds and abuse of powers.
Lastly, it's not whether the policies are perfect or world standard, the real issue is which man or woman, boy or girl is ready to do that which will make that world class standard made in Nigeria.
Some of these people have been in politics since the creation of Nigeria and their villages are still living in darkness, imagine reading in the news that a community after over hundred years of existence is celebrating having a toilet built.
I absolutely agree with you 💯% . Indeed corruption will be a challenge to the judicious use of increased tax collected.

Yet, it is a new Government and we can only hope it can do things differently and more productively.

One things is for sure though, all actions possible must be taken to increase the income of Nigeria that is now broke with a mono economy, for now, essentially dependent on income from sale of crude.

The tax bill, with what i have read so far, is deceptive. To be clear, it contains some good initiatives, but they are coached in ulterior motives.

For example, the increase in VAT. Aside from the inevitable increase in goods and services, this would mainly further impoverish the masses because the political office holders rarely carry the burden of vat payment since almost every thing they buy is paid for by the government. Even after leaving office, they still find a way to ensure the government foots thier bills.

Another area is the reduction proposed for companies. On the surface, it looks good. But looking deeper, one can see that most of these companies are fronts for the same politicians. So essentially what they are simply doing is reducing the cost of business for themselves. For instance, what business does bat do? What investments does he have? How much tax does he pay?
it will be deceptive to you because you never read it with open mind. You didn't see the areas the bill is tailored towards protecting the SMEs: you didn't see the areas it could spurred states to stimulate productivity in their domains :, you didn't see the attempt of the bill to stop multiple taxation in the country, etc but na only holes una dey like to dey pick for everything, yeye people.

I agree with you. Some good suggestion. Also, Nigerians need to get far more involved with inspecting how taxes are spent by Government.

The tools are there but we are, in the majority, not interested in utilising them. See below.

https://yali.state.gov/how-taxes-are-spent-every-citizen-has-the-right-to-know/

How Taxes Are Spent: ‘Every Citizen Has the Right to Know’

By Young African Leaders Initiative.

Ilevbaoje says that Nigeria presents its national budget to citizens in overall numbers but not in details such as how much funding is available for neighborhood projects like rehabilitating a school, repairing potholes in roads or purchasing buses to get people with disabilities to a rehabilitation center.

BudgIT’s Tracka service allows citizens to research and track budgets and public works projects. They can also give feedback to the government and to their communities. With existing social media tools, the platform brings together people with common interests to share documents, videos, photos and comments. It uses live online meetings on Facebook to discuss topics like how funds are being used in Ebola relief.

What exactly is the grouse about the proposed bills about, if one may ask?

If the bottomline is to streamline taxes instead of the present multiple tax system that is cumbersome, muddled up thereby providing loopholes for itchy fingers to exploit to their own personal gains and making the ease of doing business more difficult for investors and sundry business enterprises, then one is made to believe that there's more to it than meets the eye.

Tinubu is at the head of the table and all invectives are heaped on him on account of the palpable hardship across the land, so once he's convinced that a change to an existing problem needs urgent fixing, he should be heard objectively.

Only the wearer, they say, knows where the shoe pinches.

Let's give the bills a chance!

If the bills turn out negative, the blame would go to him solely and conversely, if positive, all the credit would go to him as well.

Yes I do and I broadly support it. I picked an area to quote, see below, that shows Tinubu has taken the best interest of Nigerians into consideration in the formulation of the bill.

The grey areas can thrashed out by stakeholders. Ordinary Nigerians should have no problems with the four proposed bill.

The North, for example, have objected to the bill vehemently and I would think one valid reason may be because many States there rely heavily on VAT stipend from the centre.

VAT will likely now be less as it will be charged on fewer items to favour all ordinary Nigerians but some do not want this.

If you shop in supermarkets today you'll be charged VAT on groceries. No more after this reform bill becomes law. Making it a very good development for some.

Yet that will be a substantial decrease for some used to Federal Government stipends in various forms to include VAT. They will fight the bill.

I think Nigerians should try and familiarise themselves with the important changes the bill seeks to facilitate to note it is favourable to their interests.

Below is a good guide to get anyone up to speed with the rudiments of the tax reform bill.

https://punchng.com/how-tinubus-tax-reforms-will-ease-citizens-burdens/

Perhaps the game-changer among the several pleasant provisions of this document is what the bill seeks to do with VAT.

It is an eloquent testimony to the fact that Tinubu has listened and harkened to the complaints by Nigerians, particularly the ordinary Nigerians who are bearing the substantial brunt of the initial pain of the government’s economic reformation policies. In the proposed law, VAT will not be charged on all items that have a direct existential impact on the common people. Items such as food, medicals, education, transport business, and agriculture are not chargeable to VAT.

@hotseat
Objective and balanced take. See my post above to note one of the obvious "grouse", I.e less VAT to be collected by the North, that is behind the vehement opposition to the bill by Northern leaders.

Nigerians should be supporting Tinubu to pass this bill into law rather than joining their slavers who want the bill quashed.

For instance, how many Nigerians know that they will pay less VAT under the new bill whereas leaders of the North, used to Federal government stipend they use for private jet lifestyles while the average Nottherner lives in abject poverty, do not want this for ordinary Nigerians?

Yet those who have decided to hate Tinubu for nothing other than his ethnic origin will be thrashing the bill and giving power to those who want Nigerians, for example, to keep paying VAT on food, rent etc while this bill seeks to abolish that.

Nigerians should be guided so as not to cut their nose to spite their face. Below is confirmation of what I said about Northern leaders and addiction to VAT plus other federal stipend.

They do not want to change so there will be inevitable face-offs between them and Tinubu who believes all States and region must use what they have to develop and sustain themselves rather than taking begging bowls to Abuja Aso Rock daily.

This face-offs had already started last year when North wanted to ensure their own, and not Akpabio, became SP. Some of us know it is because they wanted the most powerful legislative job in the land to use in frustrating Tinubu if he wanted to push any bill they feel is deteimental.to the interest of the North even if such in the best interest of all Nigerians.

Hope some see now why some of us who saw the big picture passionately supported Akpabio to be SP as a matter of utmost urgency.

Imagine Bauchi State Governor lamenting that VAT stipend affects the budget of the State. VAT largely collected from the South and negligible in most Northern State. IGR is negligible in most Northern States too with their governors not interested in looking inwards to boost it. Go figure.

https://tribuneonlineng.com/tax-reform-as-tinubus-test-of-kariability/amp/

On November 13, 2021, the Bauchi State government, while addressing newsmen in the state pointedly lamented that the “VAT war” between Wike and the Federal Government adversely affected the state’s 2022 budget proposals and projections.

Bauchi State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Aminu Hammayo, who made the submission back then after a state executive council meeting spoke what the NGF repeated on Monday.

It is simply a pointer to what the larger body of the Northern governors is saying in a more mellifluous tone in the ensuing drama.

And wait for it: They are dealing with a president described by a former governor of Jigawa State and notable northern political leader, Sule Lamido, as a man that has no godfather.

It is going to be interesting and it recommended that you grab your popcorn as this will be one interesting piece of drama.

Shetimma is only looking out for the interest of North. Even if such run contrary to the interest of Nigerians, the region will charge him to protect their interest while in Aso Rock.

It is only a question of time before Tinubu and Shetimma fall out like OBJ and Atiku. People can mark this down. This is because what Tinubu wants to do, to uplift Nigeria, means the North must embrace a lifestyle change and drastically new attitude of the "earn your keep" type.

I don't see the Conservative and rigid region acquiescing easily. Tinubu is in a fundamentalist battle I am sure he is up to the task of winning even as I know he will be sabotaged by many who cannot see the big picture and are parochially sentimental.

He is a man of means. I am sure he will get it done. Same Nwaoko, below, confirms my point that Tinubu is in a fundamental battle against the forces of vested interest and this is a test of his mettle.
