He will likely be the speaker cos that foolish Abegbaku was used against Edo north interest by Obaseki. He has been trying to romance the Apc leadership in the state and probably join and retain his speakership position. Let him continue to follow Obaseki.

Do you know what? Most Nigerians - including those that went to school - don't understand this democracy we are practicing. See this appalling ignorance and public disgrace! Should the governor-elect and the party leadership be the ones to appeal to if you want to be the House of Assembly speaker.

It shows how we have been doing the wrong thing for a long time until we now think that the wrong path is right. If the choice of the speaker lies with the governor, it means that we have already accepted that there will be no checks and balances/separation of powers.

Ah! I'm losing hope of Nigeria ever getting it right. We have everything that makes democracy impossible - from poverty to ignorance to ethnic stupidity and more. Call me a wailer, it's now my official name. Ndị a bụrụ ọnụ.

Is it the governor that determines the speaker or the house of assembly?

Will every one from akoko Edo start buying fuel for N200 if okogbe becomes speaker?

You guys have started again.

I don't know if it's the members of the House that choose who should be the speaker or it is the Governor. Until we respect the rule of law and separation of power, we'll continue to fail as a Nation. Why should the executive continue to interfere with the matters of the Legislature and even the judiciary?

Na so the betrayal, obaseki tenue take end o. He lost everything, he cldnt install his successor.

When he won in 2020 election, he forgot that he only won the battle not the war. Now he has lost the war.

Na for EFCC to begin chase am up and down, except his hands are clean, which I doubt.

Separation of powers in Nigeria exists only in Government text books.

In Nigeria, the executive mostly determines who will be the speaker.

This is wrong but with what Obaseki have turned Edo politics into there's no two way to it

No governor will allow a snitch or ambitious individual to occupy speaker position.

Rubbish. Why should he do that? So the legislature cannot choose who leads them?

Sad as it is, this is not an Edo thing. It is obvious that from The Presidency down to the state, capturing and controlling legislative arm is the the major prerogative of the executive. Little wonder accountability is not a thing in governance.

Does APC now hold majority in the Edo house? Did the PDP members decamp to APC after the governorship election? Or do they intend to impose a speaker from the minority party on the house?
They must have something huge to offer the PDP members to allow them give APC the speakership. Talking as if the Governor selects who the speaker his when his party does not control the house.

This is why Nigeria will never move forward, how will the governor or president determine who becomes speaker and Senate president? There won't be check and balance. This why Tinubu is dealing with Nigerians and the national assembly can't do anything but approve
Re: Edo: Consider Donald Okogbe For Speaker, Akoko-Edo Writes Okpebholo, APC by NaMe4: 8:48pm On Nov 03, 2024
This is the problem.

The so-called masses would want the absurd to be carried out for stupid reasons and not expect the consequences.

The governor does not appoint speaker of the house. That responsibility is left to members of the house. The governor may only lobby for a particular individual.

If there is no check and balance between the arms of government, the masses whether APC member or not will be the ones to suffer from the effects of bad leadership.

This same guy saying all these, which I totally agree with. Pls check his opinion on Fubara tomorrow, you’ll be shocked because he believes it involve APC Governor, he will have no issue. Let it be Fubara tomorrow, he will gladly tell you, 3 men can form membership of the house and make law.
As much as men behave like they are the only one with answers to problem. They activate their activism when it is against the party they love but when it favors them, you’ll always see bias and partisanship in whatever they write
