Professors are not Politicians, you must be a politician to be amongst the highest paid in Nigeria.

I looked up his research works and found only 33 publications, many of which are not as first or last author. 33 publications is a paltry return for a professor demanding a wage similar to his more productive Western colleagues. I could find none that were of sufficient quality that would appear in any prominent international journals for soil science. None appeared to have done anything to influence how nigerian farmers treat soils to improve crop yield in Nigeria.

And yet they want to be paid like those in the Western World who are at the forefront of almost every research.

Its the politicians that own Nigeria. Tinubu further ensure it is government of the politicians, by the politicians and for the politicians. It is the remnants that the people struggle for.
The best you can hope for under Tinubu is to be a politician.

Stop talking like a Nigerian professor of nothing. Engineering revolves around design and technician role revolves around repairs, maintenance, operation. The fact that a HND carries mechanical engineer as well as BSc doesnt make a professor a technician. It is pathetic to expect a professor to try and decipher the designs of other engineers just to satisfy ignoramuses like yourself
So what has the useless and hopeless Nigerian lecturers designed

Who benefits the economy more those archaic professors or the roadside mechanics

The BEST way to put it. He only singled out Nigerian Lecturers, whereas Nigerian workers, most especially in the public sector are the lowest paid workers compared to other African countries and the world.
God bless you.
It is only greed that is making ASUU to keep making this noise every now and then. The entire work force in Nigeria is underpaid. Why is their own case so special that they must always keep making special noise about it?

Infact they are about the most paid civil servants in the country, enjoying several benefits ,yet they must always look for ways make noise and ask for more leading to strike actions.
The entire country is bad. What is going on in Academia is not peculiar to only them.

Confirmed... And it's mostly due to the fact that our currency keeps losing value and nosediving astronomically.

Oga what had the professors in engineering designed , how many thesis has been generated and implemented by them outside copy and paste , how useful have they been to improving themselves and the society at large, what practicality have they exhibited.

What is their productivity like compared to others who earn better wages. Generally speaking an academic is assessed based on teaching, research and service in the workplace.
And where is the enabling environment!??

Let's analyze things briefly before making some statements.

In my school, we enjoy only 2hrs power, what meaningful research can I or my project students do?

Even research that should benefit your community is self-sponsored! Unlike America that when they know you have interest in education, the money they would use on their politicians, they prefer to use it to feed you.

We sponsor ourselves for conferences to get promoted.

All these from the peanuts we receive.

And because these peanuts are not enough, people like me use App Loans to take care of family needs and other financial demands despite this esteemed profession. I don't joke with my work. I was retained as a First Class graduate and I know my worth but do I deserve this in a country that should value and feed its young researchers, not to talk of professors.

The quality of life here in this part of the world does not encourage academic research.

As an assistant Lecturer who has much to offer, I feel bad not being valued in my own country. Yet, I know my worth.

Talking about productivity, many academics are dying because of excessively crazy workload. I am a level coordinator to over 350 students. I get home everyday drained of energy, and yet no money to eat well or feed Family.

I mark nothing less than 4000 scripts every semester. Colleagues are dying of heart attack and hypertension because of this kind of productivity!!! Abeg, stop talking what you don't know!

I can go on and on.

What is the productivity of the politician? Supply borehole in a constituency for 4yrs, yet earning millions!

Why can't we say they don't deserve that money too??!!

Something is fundamentally wrong with the way we defend many things in this country! cry

If you have the means, leave this country.

We have too many crazy people.

I agree that the challenges you enumerated are very present with us in Nigeria. However the truth is that the academia actually find relevance in the challenging! I insist that the Ivory Tower in Nigeria is under performing and therefore undeserving of the parity pay now sought by the academia.
