You dont seem to understand tax. VAT is paid when you buy, income tax is paid when you profit or earn. Farmers pay neither of the tax, it’s called VAT exemption. It means FG doesn't collect either VAT or income tax for the local production of food or the profit and earnings made by farmers.

This is what you said. And I am telling you that that is not the issue at all. It is not tax on profit or earnings that this bill is about, it is VAT. VAT is a different tax to income tax. If you get a contract today you will see 2 tax, normally refered to as VAT and Tax. VAT is consumption tax and the other Tax is income tax. You will be charged for both.

Back to the topic, you think because Northerners are the ones talking, this bill will not affect the south? Particularly the South South. Exon mobil for instance, operates in the South South but their corporate office is in Lagos, their VAT is paid in Lagos and when this bill succeeds, it is Lagos state that will get a percentage of their VAT. That is an unfair displacement of the revenue of South South to the South west. The same thing applies for everything produced by companies in all states but the company corporate HQ in Lagos pays the VAT while Lagos collects the huge percentage.

The bill actually favours mainly Lagos state followed by Ogun state.

What you should know is that, when this bill passess, there are very many VAT that will be paid by what you consume in all states of Nigeria but its Lagos state government that will benefit.

This beer tax that you guys have been talking about saying the north doesn't drink beer but collect the tax, most of the tax now will go to Lagos state and Ogun. It is not only the north that it will affect. The more you drink Guinness stout in Port harcourt, the more money Lagos state gets. The more Coca Cola you drink in Borno, the more money Lagos gets. The more you fly out of Owerri airport, the more money Lagos gets. The more Dangote Cement you buy, anywhere in Nigeria, it is the more Lagos state gets.

You gerrit?
It is where the items are consumed that the VAT will be paid to. Does not matter where the head office is. Are you sure you read it properly or maybe I did not.

Why won’t you pay taxes on your profits/earnings? Food is VAT Exempt.
I don’t know that is as a result of half-baked literates in Nigeria.
Africans don’t understand taxation and it is the best tool to help the poor. A lot of Nigerians made money through cryptos and no single tax paid. USA is the richest state on earth today and it is mainly because of taxation.

When I was making $40K-$60K per year in America, I was in a different tax bracket and now that I make over $100K per year, I found myself in a higher tax bracket and I pay more taxes.
Davido, Burna and rest will go and do show’s overseas and collect huge money with nothing pay to the government.

Taxation is very interesting, from USA to all Western Europe countries, when your yearly income exceeds

Dangote HQ is located in Lagos state, the bill will put an end to what the guy you're asking this question is talking about.

Now, wherever you buy Dangote cement, that's where you will pay VAT, instead of it getting paid to Lagos because Dangote HQ is located in Lagos.

That is not in the bill.

What you have said is the proposed solution by Tinubu after the concerns were made. This means the the govt has seen and understood the concerns but right now, they just want the bill to be passed first then they will address the issues raised.

The bill only proposes to give derivation percentage of VAT revenue generated by states back to the states.

This means if the bill is passed as it its, its just going to be a tax war between states which means we the citizens will definitely pay more tax than we currently are.

The summary of the bill is more tax on us.

That is not yet in the bill. Thats just a suggestion for now.

For me all these issues are not the problem, Nigerians have not realised that all this issues is a diversion be cause we dont read in between the lines. They all dont want us to know or protest that our taxes will increase. We are arguing amongst ourselves about Northern governors using our ethnic differences, but the truth is that some how, this bill still favours them as they can tax us more and more and get more money.

This is like another subsidy removed.

His head office is in Lagos and currently pays all the VAT in Lagos. The bill doesn't change that.

The north seems to always find a way to make laws that favour their people (at least the educated class of their people) while the south just sits there observing.

By the way, I don’t want to say a whole Senator is mentally handicapped. Where did he see in the bill that FG is taxing people more? If not mental problem, how will the north not be able to afford to pay tax when the bill basically is still going to retain current tax percentage paid by average Nigerians?

God bless you. Ndume is nothing more than a regressive Throwback eager for Nigeria to remain Afghanistan-like whereas many in the South, especially Yorubas, are now determined to fight the North over this issue.

The tax reform Bill is not about taxing Nigerians more and it is embarrassing Ndume suggests so. The bill simply and mainly seeks more efficient collection of tax. Something the entire world agrees Nigeria must pursue.

Critically, it is important to not that Ndume and other Northerners fighting the bill do so because of reduction in Vat they will collect. They are not concerned that reforms to the Vat section of the bill will benefit many millions of ordinary Nigerians.

As someone said before, it will be difficult for the south, and indeed Nigeria, to develop bar separation from the North or minus forcing the region to accept what is in the greater good of our nation as Tinubu is seeking to do.

This is why Tinubu needs Omokri on board, with his social media brilliance, to explain to even the most ignorant Nigerian the benefit of initiatives like the tax reform Bill. I am fully on board with exposing thee North as the impediment to Nigeria's development, that they are, if this will inspire all other regions to support the government over initiatives critical to Nigeria's growth and development that the North will try to frustrate and kill.

How can you opine Tinubu is doing the right even when the results are clearing showing nothing.
whatever you are doing and you can not pin point benefit or any sign of improvement then its as good as time wasting.
So far subsidy removal as worsen Nigeria economy, no doubt we moved from budget subsidy to unappropriated subsidy, subsidy is still on but we dont even have a clue how much we are paying, whatever we are paying as subsidy before is now ,×3 as naira worsen.

As a before Subsidy is the only benefit that successful get to Nigerians directly But than ended fully on may 29 cos one man was to failed to plan ahead.

Even developed nations, Govt are still in the business of subsidizing essentials why is subsidy demonized in Nigeria. So far all the money saved from removal where is it, more money to the governors to share but how as signified improvement or growth.

Economic is a social sciences, you work with practical, feedback and reviews, in accordance with the " Pecularities" of the environment
I like your argument.

But did you consider the fact that we were borrowing to pay subsidy?

We were also borrowing to support the artificial naira value?

Buhari had even borrowed money on crude oil that was yet to be refined

I will ask you, how long can you survive by borrowing?

Borrowing to even support the naira was economically terrible, especially for a country that decided to import when it could develop its own production.

To show how lazy the country is, we were borrowing to buy fuel, that we then subsidise with borrowed money?

We were even importing toothpick, paper, wire?

How can such an economy grow?

What Tinubu did, was expose the dying economy, now its either we survive or die.

I trust Nigerians, we will survive.

Kindly take into record, we are still borrowing under Tinubu, the govt is still borrowing for things we cant even pin point ... subsidy is still on, Tinubu govt term it shortfall cheesy
Under Tinubu we have so much spendings that are unappropriated or budgeted for, like the new private jet, beast SuV and the subsidy termed shortfall ... these are oblivous to the budget, for a fantastically corrupt leaders that is one big issue to be worried about.

I dont believe the money used to subsidize fuel or support the naira at a time were borrowed .... these are just cover up lies, Nnpc declared profit one minute and rush back the next to claim they are owing debts

Our economy is in shabbles not because we import but because our leaders intentionally fail to even do the "Norm" e.g local refinery is a norm that could have saved us 50% forex pressure but some cabals even had guts to go to court fuel importation must continue Benine republic is a dumping ground and there currency is not doing worst like naira
The problem of our economic is more of human factors, cardoso, Tinubu and most of our leaders have funds and investment offshores, if Naira gain value it doesnt favor them, and these are the people we entrust to fix the economy
Our leaders doing the right thing is detrimental to there "interest/investment"... thats why they leave road nd take bush path ...smh

They rather to use importation to curb dangote fuel monopoly .. instead of fixing our refineries ... very funny people
