USA has 50 states.

Each state is allocated some points, all summing up to 538 , which are called electoral college votes.

Now, when a candidate wins a state, he gets awarded the electoral college votes or points for that state.

This means that if for instance a candidate wins in TEXAS, he gets 38 electoral college votes, and he needs to win other states, collecting points till they reach 270 points.

Some states have higher points than others.

What this simply means is that any state you win would be converted to points.

And at the end of the day, the candidate with highest points based on the states he won is declared winner.

Hope you get it now
I do. Thanks

Congratulations to trump and that's democracy at play. Even if they give me 10m usd to stay in America, I can't. I'm Nigerian and I love my country and am doing very well by God's grace. I should have considered staying after I graduated but didn't. Hope trump will give you a position in his cabinet as his Nigerian rep. wink

We already have the system of winning two-thirds of the country. A case of six and half-a-dozen.
The law is too confusing. Its like you are trying to mesh two systems together at once and it doesn't seem well thought out. For example, does it say what should happen if a candidate fails to win 2/3 of the country and what the backup plan should be?

I think we already have something similar in Nigeria by winning a certain percentage of the votes; including the FCT but whether it's enforced it something else.

In the US, winning the major states with highest population still doesn't guarantee anything. Harris has already won California and New York but Trump will win the election.

Also, what i said is the American system is about the number of states you win and not the number of people who vote for you.

Electoral College is good, should be replicated in Nigeria. Educated people in Lagos, Abuja and PH cannot be ruled by the decision of largely illiterates and ignorant people in Niger, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa. This cancels mob control.
The most enlightened and educated states should have more weight on their votes.
It was in that same spirit that the writers of our constitution said a candidate must have 25% in 25 States and FCT before he/she can be declared President. But our judges had other ideas in d last election.

Well...illegality is illegality... Why should people do things illegally when there are legal ways of achieving same. I am not against people seeking for greener pastures but I think this story of Trump sending people home is propaganda exaggerated too much. Evidence shows America admitted more Nigerians and Africans during Trump/Pence 4years than Biden/Harris 4years.
Every country in the world arrests and depots illegal migrants, so why should that of US b any different?
