I won't bored you with my past but will like to go a little down the memory lane. Finished from a private school in the Southwest and i have always been a street soldier immediately after secondary school against my parents wish but man gats do what he gats do and I'm always grateful for the street cos i learnt so many things before gaining admission to Uni And it's one of the reason i never got initiated into Cultism and I'm always grateful to the street for that because if I'm actually one then i might not be privileged to be Alive today. Spent 3 years on the street after secondary school before finally gaining admission to study pure Mathematics which happened to be my worst subject in secondary school even till now and how i managed to graduate is still a mystery... I just have to accept the admission because i just want new environment nd challenge entirely. I'm who i am in Uni but I'm not writing about my life in the university but My life as a Nigerian Corper. It all started when i went to print my call up letter and I'm to Camp at Sagamu Ogun state... Going to camp with Nokia torchlight, broke ass me but the street already taught me survival!!! |

Their is a section in a nairaland called diaries, — in that section only you can write, and nobody else can comment. (To avoid disrupting) I'm really interested in reading your life documentary, please feel free to make use of that section Admin please move to diary session, Cc. Lalasticlala |

I got to Sagamu Camp feeling stressed mentally and so bored because man was down financially, no browsing phone and with the fact that I'm a first semester spill over student and my school had to fill us in next NYSC batch immediately after first semester exam. So no meeting someone i grad same year with in here. We had to line up joining other graduates to register into the camp, i was given a bed space and a tag and sort. Everyone hanging around and i always finds it so hard to mingle even till now, We all slept in our hall with everyone gisting and some already forming squad, Man just observing. So first survival instinct was to make friends with the local and that really goes well and I ain't lacking till we round up camp activities and got our posting letters to our various ppa. Yeah I ain't wanna go deep into life at the camp buh it's a lotta crazy mehn!!! Lotta crazy... From sex in the bush, soldiers selling weed and being caught, maami market drama, the thieves and so so on . I got my Posting letter and it was a town in IJEBU... Ijebu omo Alare Omo onigbo ma’de, omo onigbo mawo mawo, omo onigbo ajoji magbodowo, ajoji tobawo gboro yio di ebora ile baba tobi wan lomo, Omo Alagemo ogun woyo woyo. That's few of Ijebu Eulogy because i will be talking about there culture and everything as a Corper in there. When i first got the posting letter, i noticed some of my local friend frowning their face and urging to help to talk to some people to help me change the posting to another city but i said No... They trying to get me scared but i love adventure and it's indeed adventurous. Well about 2p.m we all at the gate with different bus trying to convened us to our various locations with some lical government bus helping some people to there LG for free and mine happens to be among. Well everyone sat in the bus quiet and most people looking sad all because of what they have heard from the locals they ask about, so it was a very boring journey untill we are about entering into the town and the first significant welcoming we saw are old women dress in traditional attire just like the white witches in Nollywood movie and each of the women's carrying a small clay pot on their head... I kid you not everyone in the bus burst into tears and so scared even though those women are going on their own and minding em business. Some even started calling their parents and some praying heavily but I won't blame them, most see those kind of setting in wicked Nollywood films. The driver try calm us down and gingered us not to be scared that they are harmless... Are they? The driver said it's really a cool place we are entering... Is it? That day defines the stay of most corper in that town but Me? Nah, I ain't scared and all that makes me love it more... Now let's start my Sojourn in a small town in Ijebu as A Corper. |

We arrived the local government around evening. Being a Muslim, I'm welcome by the Corper Muslim community to a House named Muslim Family House... Well I'm still a broke me because i use the allawee paid on camp to do dorime at the mami market as per the big boy wey i be nd i eventually entered the town with zero naira, yeah i have a bad money management. Well the Muslim community welcome us well, gave us a room and fed us for 3 days, 3 times daily as that was their usual tradition. Met with few people at the Muslim lodge, just two rooms with female and male sharing each room and we are five corpers in total and the indigenes occupied the remaining rooms in the house. One beautiful evening i just decided to stroll the community that will be hosting me for another few months, that's when i noticed there is a bar just beside the family house which brought a sigh of relief base on who i be sha cos I ain't too feeling the Muslim brothers here as I'm not that a practicing Muslim from the start. And one thing i noticed about the town is almost every house having a shrine and those traditionalist too plenty ehn, both young nd old people and kids less than 10yrs learning to be a babalawo. Yeah i got to experience the reason of my strolling, checking if there are cute babes in the town and there are handful of 'big backer' girls but man just look nd obs nd move on. That's part of my orientation, I don't make first move and no matter how pretty you are I won't ever stop you to toast you... Nah!! But i definitely have my techniques if i want you and it always worked out for me maybe cos I have a gentle nd cute face with perfect height nd slim body. We get documented by the Lgi and have series of Orientation about our hosting community and they keep advising us to stay away from the Locals especially there girls, we shouldn't stay out late, no crayfishing waka among others but i paid no attention because what's the usefulness of NYSC if not to learn other people culture and know there ways. Me wey wan enjoy my service year to the fullest. Those scary Orientation nd different sad story of the town really terrifies most corper nd that's why I don't really have a corper friend but the indigenes cos there ain't no way u gonna see any corper in town past 7p.m buh here i am Retired-Soldier sitting nd blazing with d locals for main junction around 10p.m to 11pm sometimes. I no dey hear word... |
