Bolt Driver Apologizes to Hon Alex Ikwechegh Over Provocation, Begs Nigerians for Forgiveness

By Wisdom Nwedene

A Bolt Driver, Stephen Abuwatseya has finally apologised to House of Representatives member representing ABA North/South of Abia State in the National Assembly, Hon. Alex Ikwechegh for insulting him when he went to deliver a package to him.

In a video personally released to the press, Mr Abuwatseya begged Nigerians to forgive him and equally move forward.

According to him, "Good day, Nigerians. My name is Stephen Abuwatseya. I had a misunderstanding with Rt. Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh a few days ago. I actually want to apologize to him for whatever I must have said or done to provoke him to that level of anger. I want to tell Nigerians that it’s not time for us to start dividing ourselves based on religion, tribes, or regions. We should actually come together, see how we can unite this nation and move it forward."

Abuwatseya continued, calling for unity and forgiveness. “Please, Nigerians, let’s forgive and forget, as it’s even contained in our Lord’s Prayer, that ‘Lord, please forgive us, as we forgive those who trespass against us.' For there is no justice without forgiveness. Thank you very much."

In his heartfelt message, the driver also took time to thank his family and well-wishers for their support. "I want to use this medium to thank my family members, my parents, my brothers, my uncles, and everybody that stood by me. I want to appreciate all of you. I love you all. Thank you. God bless Nigeria."

This apology comes just days after Ikwechegh himself issued a public statement, acknowledging his actions and expressing regret over his behavior during the altercation. In a message posted on his Instagram account, the lawmaker apologized to the Uber driver, the Nigerian Police Force, and the National Assembly, asserting that his actions fell short of the standards expected from a public officeholder regardless of how intense the Provocation must have been.

Ikwechegh explained that he had engaged in alternative dispute resolution with Abuwatseya, which led to a "mutual and respectful agreement" between the two parties.

he wasn't blackmailed, he wasn't threatened.

He has collected his share of settlement and for the police to drop the case and for the honourable to be certain no one can bring the matter up again, he has to publicly declare that he's sorry and doesn't need the case.

He is holding at least 500k to 1m now

XAUBulls:
The profuse apology by this young guy in the video is highly unwarranted.
The public apology was most probably part of the settlement agreement.
He should have just said he has forgiven that highly dishonorable guy in the house of representatives and collect his at least NGN 5 million of money as compensation for the verbal and physical assaults he got that night.
I think he would have collected more than N5million. The negotiations would have taken place in the presence of his lawyer. The lawyer too will collect his own share. N10 million and above sounds more reasonable.
Alternative dispute resolutions are good though because they minimize the long time it takes to get justice in the regular courts.
This is the best outcome for both parties. The uber driver gets life changing money, the Uber hevwas driving might be on hire purchase or lease, and the House Member is left off the hook, he was facing legal trouble and house disciplinary committee.

@wirinet

I absolutely agree with everything you said here... Succinctly stated. As for that apology, I felt that the Bolt driver used a few adjectives in that video which could make the public to incorrectly think that he triggered the altercation which led to that House of Representative member (who also FALSELY claimed to be a Senator while being recorded) to react in a most despicable way, threatening to make him "disappear" and more. These dishonorable scenes were all broadcast on some major news networks around the world.

It's good though that this is coming to an end and let's hope the Bolt driver invests the few millions he's getting as compensation wisely because some folks worldwide are very bad when it comes to wisely investing millions from inherited from a late relative or from the lottery.

All the best.

It is not against the law to seek a settlement in these kinds of cases. So, nothing wrong if he got a house or car from all of this. The problem is the fact that he turned around to issue an apology as though a crime was not committed... that there is a problem. It is almost as though this here is to clear the Honorable shithead of culpability for the assault— wipe his slate clean —, but that ain't how this is supposed to be. We all know that a crime was committed; even the Honorable shithead's apology suggests that indeed a crime was committed. For the victim to now insist that none was made this a problem. undecided

1. He was threatened and coerced into making the apology.

2. He was paid hush money and made to sing the praises of his newly found benefactor.

A man beaten and apologising to his unjust tormentor reflects and unearths the larger underlying societal decay and the obvious disorientated national values concertedly emplaced in the last decades by the corrupt ruling class. According to the corrupt apostles of the Might-Is-Right gospel, a subjugated abused victim-girl must not cry when a rapist mounts the virgin with reckless abandon no matter how painful it might be. Crying becomes a crime even if the cascading tears turn to blood as long the human demon reaps his dividend of the momentary 'enjoyment'. Pure wickedness you may exclaim. Yes, that is exactly what it is!

I can see the endless oppression of Nigerians because the continued rapid downward slide along the slope of penury and frustration is the strengthening and fortifying tonic and anointing of the Pharaohs. What a pity! In these modern times when the decent climes challenged by natural disasters are planning how to invade Mars for leisure and a deeper understanding of the celestial bodies, it is ironic that the trending issues in Nigeria endowed with natural mineral and climatic blessings are the dehumanizing national leadership dividends of toxic corruption as typified by violent crimes, lack of clean water, functional electricity, and good roads.

Nigeria needs a selfless messiah who is detribalised, unambitious for wealth or fame, and whose sole concern and dream is to reconstruct the entire structure of governance with the bricks of egalitarian justice, fairness, and equity where the poorest person is empowered by the system to sue the richest person to obtain equitable justice. This sounds utopian but certainly achievable with God's providential interference. May that era come quickly in Christ Jesus' name.

There is no selfless messiah out there who would think it wise or reasonable to sully himself with the lot of a nation of over 200 million people; this is 200 million people who refuse to do for themselves what nations with a population less than that have been able to achieve for themselves. There is no rational or logical reason to be had by any supposed messiah to want to have anything to do with people like that. If anything, the risk is severely high that such a person would be murdered by the same people even before his feet land in front of them given these are the same people who protect some of the most corrupt humans on the planet. undecided

2. no god or deity is coming to save Nigerians from the filthy situation they created by their own collective will. No God has interfered in over 100 years; it is beyond utopian to assume one would at this point. undecided

1. Whoever that knows this man should go and tell him to return that money if collected any or he will live to regret his actions as that money will bring cause to him. People can stand by you under oppression, spoke in your favor and you just betray them. Nemesis!
2. There is power in spoken word. Somebody said he will make you dissappear and you apologized to him and submit to him in the name of money. You will indeed dissappear. Spiritual!

My candidate advice: if he collected any money he should return it. If he apologized because of threat to life that is fine and move on. God will fight for you.
