What a pity.

Granted that rice is smuggled everyday, but the allegation seems to be exaggerated.

I do not agree that each car can carry 65 bags of rice. If Soyombo said mini trucks, then that would be understandable. Did he make an error or he did not understand it all?

Hopefully this APC government can allow rice import once again, so that the price of rice can reduce in the markets.
The vehicles are modified for smuggling. They're common on Orile-Mile2 axis of which Seme is the destination.

my bro went to a to a town in ilorin Kwara state last week name okuta. You can buy bag of rice for 50k there because the town is close to Benin republic. Don't know why they still close those borders when things are cheap over dae
Omo make Tinubu open border jare. Imagine 50k.

Funniest thing is that some of the rice being sold are still smuggled, they are just putting lot of markups coz of the smuggling “tax”.

Hungry Nigerians better go camp out around those places so they can get their share of that smuggled loot coming into the country. sad

Come to Owode or Idiroko and see for yourself. The cars have been rebuilt and expanded to carry even up to 90 bags

Their job is to arrest peasants who smuggle 1-10 bags, those unable to settle the oga at the top, not the big guys that have already settled.

Nigerian law is for the poor.
Like one idiot was talking about taxing cars because a whole Senator has many cars. How can that Senator pay tax? It is regular man on the stree that they would be catching and setting themselves on fire or throwing poop at each other.

Tax, regulations and laws are propagated for the weak.

Smiles..you're talking as if you're not in Nigeria anymore. The border has always been opened, but codedly for their own people. Naija don spoil finish. Go to sango early morning, around 4am and you'd see cars looking like camels ,with oversized tyres fixed at the back side, carrying loads of rice into the country like convoy, driving recklessly. They'd offload the rice into the various warehouses for onward dispatch to various states. Dey play

Rice that has entered the country before Soyombo finish typing .
But I wonder why imported rice is cheaper than rice grown here. Government should open the border for at least 6 months and watch how prices of food will crash.

If hungry Nigerians who see rice are still concerned about who is in charge, then something is definitely destroyed in the mentality of the people where it concerns their hunger. undecided

I hope this will not be the case if SLS of CBN during PGEJ and the interchange with Ministry of Finance about how much was missing!!!!

This information is not completely detailed except the plan is to raise awareness and attention against the purported smuggler which I see here....

What kind of car can carry 65 bags of rice and we don't even know the bag per KG except and be able to recklessly drive to beat security.....!!!!huh?
Re: Soyombo To Customs: Your Men Have Colluded With Smugglers to move rice Tonight by udemzyudex(m): 8:52pm On Nov 10, 2024
The government deliberately close the border to please some set of people to enrich themselves, then telling us it's to help Nigerian farmers when we all know that the farmers here can't feed the whole Nigeria.

In fact farm products in Nigeria are more expensive than imported ones so what's the need?
They close the border to benefit some smuggling cabals and not to the benefit of Nigerians.

In Dangote's voice, the rice are substandard and that's why it's cheap.

A Toyota Camry (Big Daddy) can conveniently take 65 bags.

A Toyota Avalon can take 70 bags.

These old Pajero and Cherokee jeeps can take 110 bags.

You'd be shocked!

I believe this leaked information 101% because I ply that route regularly to my working place in the neighboring country.During the day, these custom men harass and seize rice from all these petty smugglers, whereas the main multimillion naira smuggling do happen over the night.
This is a great work coming from this journalist

GodlyOpeyemi:
Good evening, my daddies, mothers, brothers, and sisters on Nairaland Forum.

Please I need your help.

I'm using this medium to appeal to everyone that comes across this post to consider me, please. I'm not going to lie so I can be pitied, so I'll just be completely honest.

I'm here to beg so I can get something to eat. Any good person should help me with anything he or she can; I'll appreciate any amount, please.

I'm begging everyone in the name of God Almighty. I've exhausted every option I have, and that's why I'm here now. I have not eaten anything since yesterday morning. This is due to the fact that I was evicted from where I was squatting. I have been running helter-skelter looking for where I can get a temporary place to stay.

Please, I am totally broke. I don't have any money; I will appreciate it if anyone can help me with any amount just for me to get something to eat today. Please don't let me die of this hunger! I swear to God Almighty, I've never done this before, and this is the last thing I want to do, but I have no other option now.

Please have mercy on me and help me.

My bank details are:

Bank: PALMPAY
Account Number: 89 184 22 794
Account Name: Zainab Opeyemi Saliu

May God Almighty continue to bless you and your family. May you never lack any good things in life. May God Almighty continue to protect you and your family. Amen

If by 9:30 PM, I don't get help, I will sell my phone. But it will affect me a lot.

Please have mercy on me. Someone should please help me with something to buy food. My PalmPay account balance is Zero and I'm beginning to feel pain in my stomach. Please.
Scammer go and sell the phone

Tinubu's reforms should include lifting the ban on importation of food and actually ban the importation of petroleum products. There's no reason for food being more expensive in Nigeria than neighbouring countries with up to 100% difference in prices.
