The man on the picture below is called David Mulder. David is 31 years old and living in the Netherlands. Physically, David is completely healthy, physically. And yet… he will die on Wednesday. It’s already known, the date is set in stone.

David has been struggling with severe depression for most of his life. After talking to a psychiatrist for many sessions, it was agreed to end his life. His suffering was deemed “chronic” and without a cure, and therefore David will undergo euthanasia. The only hard thing, David said, is to leave behind his wife. But if he had not gotten approved for euthanasia, “he would have had to do it himself”. This interests me a lot — the morality behind euthanasia. Is it okay, to end a physically healthy man’s life, because his mind is unwell?

I’m glad I am not a psychiatrist, or a physician. Doctors are sworn to not cause harm, and yet this man, while living in a healthy body, is harmed by his own mind every day. In most of the world, euthanasia is not allowed, and if it is, it is allowed only for diseases of the flesh. So what to do with diseases of the mind?

Just allow me and David engage in some real talk for a month and mofo will forget about ending it all.

Idiot is healthy and well and due to depressions (what he was told he had) he had in the past, he's going to take the euthanasia route - imagine. He shud av traveled to war torn nations and die thru bombs. He's so cowardice that he wants to go thru mercy killing style leaving behind a wife... David why? Just a 5days walk around inside sahara desert will melt dis guys folly.

Better than dying from a war, robbery or crazed gunman. May he live long in the hearts of his beloved.
