The Penguin........9.5/10

Now this is literal perfection. Man, Oz Cobb has been a devil right from a kid. Damn. This w@nker and self aggrandizing pr!ck has no loyalty to no one but himself. Touche. You might be thinking this guy has some morality or its just survival skills kicking in but bruh competing with sàtan himself. He woulda sacrificed his mom if he had to.
Oz Cobb brought back the true meaning of being a villain. No more sympathetic villains. Villains you root for. This one is just a villain you purely h@te.

That boy who portrayed Ozzy as a kid was perfection. From the voice, to the accent, the mannerisms of Oz down to the way he walks. Sheesh. He's freakishly good. The way he twitches his face when someone irks him, exactly the same facial expression with Colin Farrell's prosthetic heavy Oz Cobb.
Impressive for a 12 yr old. Man, big kudos to the casting and directing team. Incredible job they did. It's like they time travelled Collin Farrell to when he was younger to come play that role. Love to see more of this kid Ryder Allen. 👏🏽

DC continues to set the bar high for CBM TV serials. Redefining what it means to be a villain in a marketplace where everyone seems to have a tragic villain origin story. This one straight up goes for the jugular.

This is top tier. This is definitely an awards magnet and easily the best pic for second half 2024. ✌🏽 The best CBM show hands down since 2020. Definitely easy top 3 all time best.
Now, some people got comfortable thinking this was an anti-hero show, expecting a soapy, happy ending that completes a phantom redemption arc for Oz.

That’s why I particularly liked the final episode, it reminded everyone that this was, in fact, a supervillain show. There are no saints on this side.....That final act by Oz typified what the show was all about: it might make your stomach turn and your face red, but as one supervillain once said, "The hardest choices require the strongest wills."

I would be greedy to ask for a Season 2, but I doubt Matt Reeves will allow it, as it could distort his "Batman Universe." Still, my bowl will be empty and ready to receive if they ever make it happen.

IGN has blood on their hands, though, because they have some explaining to do for that 5/10 rating. The average rating per episode on IMDb was 8.5/10, and the final episode is being touted as one of the best ever. This is an all-time show, and Sir Colin Farrell take a bow! 👏🏿

Walahi, they said no to any redemption arc.

Lol, you still thinking about IGN. I've even forgotten those w@nkers dropped that stupid rating and review. Like I said, hardly anyone takes IGN seriously. Their ratings is more or less a meme on the internet.

It finally drops and I don't seem to be enjoying it ..

Only ep3 caught my attention , the last two episodes, I was trying to hard to follow up ...

The fighting scenes seems to fast, I can't seem to catch up with each punches, gunshots and whatnots they hitting at each other no matter how hard I try to concentrate..

This season 2 might not be IT compared to season 1...
Funny because I thought the 3rd episode of season 2 was it's weakest. At least the first half of the episode.

The whole VI and Jinx fight did not hit it for me. It felt like pointless fighting that was leading to no consequences especially since I knew VI was never going to kill Jinx there

Mel's mum, Medarda actually has the most interesting plot point so far in season 2. She has become my favorite character

More Penguin

I'm happy

By the time Matt Reeves and Colin Farrell are done working on this character, people will finally recognize him as a top 5 villain in Batman's rogue's gallery

Human beings sha.

If there are hundred people. 97 will say that the sun is yellow. 2 will say golden yellow. One will say reddish yellow.

Because everyone is hyping Arcane, there will be some contrarians who will rate Arcane lowly and claim that it is overhyped.

aren't you being irrevocably stupid as usual, or aren't you the one who usually goes into a tantrum anytime people give their review/opinions here about movies/series that doesn't sit well with your skull full of stones.

What a very foolish boy.

I hated it so much that he had to win in the end.

This version of Penguin goes up there with Palpatine and The Joker as my top 3 villains of all time

Arcane is a great animation by any standard.

1. Action- 9/10 one of the best fight sequences among animations.

2. Art/animation/graphics- 9/10 great 3d graphics and shading. Easily one of the best among animations.

3. Plot- 9/10. Lots of character development. Not cliche as you can't guess what will happen next.

Arcane is simply one of the best animations ever made.

And sometimes, there are times 1+1 = 2.5 or 3 (Synergy). There are grey areas where people can argue and both sides have an objective point.

I disagree about the fights in Arcane being great tho...

Rather I think the fights are artistic...but fights cannot be great solely by being artistic and using musical notes/beats to match the rythm

For me what makes a fight great are -

1. Stakes
2. Emotional payoff
3. Clash of ideals
4. Choreography
5. Strategem
6. Storytelling though the fight
7. Build up

All are important (I may be forgetting 1 or 2 right now)

Other factors that can play a role in enhancing these are-
8. Artistic
9. Music

1. Stakes - Apart from a few, Most fights in Arcane lack stakes. They tend to end with very little change to the status of the main characters

2. Emotional payoff - Arcane succeeds in this quite a few times

3. Clash of Ideals - Arcane mostly fails in this. While sometimes characters have conflicting ideals, these ideals are not brought to the forefront of the fight scenes. The focus is on making the fights look cool

4. Choreography - Arcane succeeds in this

5. Strategem - Arcane is decent at this.

6. Storytelling through fights - Arcane is semi-decent at this

7. Buildup - Arcane fails woefully at this. Battles in Arcane feel random. Like they just happen out of nowhere. It never feels like the story is building up to a major clash between characters. I mean, you could argue that the battle between Jinx and VI was built up but even that was done poorly...

8. Artistic - Arcane excels at this

9. Music - Arcane excels at this

The issue here is that Arcane focuses on the less relevant aspects on what makes a fight engaging.

I watched Arcane season 1 just few days ago, and I can barely remember any battles. They are all mostly forgettable...they don't leave a mark at all.
There is no buildup to the battles, they just come and go and don't stick to memory

Meanwhile fight scenes that I watched in say Naruto years ago are still very fresh in my memory

I gave all the details I look for in a fight and stated that these details are what makes a fight great and memorable to me.

You simply handpicked my statement, chose one part and completely misinterpreted it...wtf

Oga. The fight scenes are crazy. The fight between Jinx and the black boy at the end of season 1 had stakes, if I remember correctly.

The animation of the fights, the fighting styles. I love VI with her gauntlets.

Broo, the disappointment isn't enough to articulate how I felt for the fight against Vi and Jinx. I was like 'Is that it?'

The trailer tease about it and I expected more.

And the fight of Sevika and Cait, the arm Jinx gave her felt too heavy. It didn't make for a very interesting battle.

The only thing that made it appealing was the song and that fact that they continued fighting despite the runes misbehaving.

Honestly those fights felt tiring to watch.

Flashy colours and splashing artistic images alone do not make for a good fight...

What made those fights worse is that they had no resolution.

Please name a 3d animation that has better fight scene 3d animation/graphics than Arcane.

I didn't remember Ekkos name on the spot. Does that change the reason why they were fighting?

Jinx and Ekko were childhood friends who are now enemies. Ekko was fighting because Jinx killed some of his friends and Ekko believed that Jinx is far too gone. Jinx disliked Ekkos beliefs seeing him as a self righteous saviour. Ekko actually wanted to kill Jinx because he believed her to be a mad dog that would destroy everything he built
Jinx was ready to kill herself and Ekko because she was done with the system.

Got these 3 on repeat since I finished Act I. But most especially, I Can't Hear It. Freya Ridings poured her soul into that song. Almost gives What Could Have Been? a run for its money.

They gave Woodkid a second chance and he actually cooked this time with To Ashes ans Blood

I like that you specified 3D animation. What a way to cut out 95% of animated content aimed at adults

And calling Ekko a character is doing a massive service to him.

There are great characters with great Dynamics in Arcane. But Ekko is nowhere near them

The Penguin is great for it's character writing.

Despite being a drugs/street gang series, it fails at that aspect. If you want a series about drugs/gangs, The Penguin is probably not the show for you because it doesn't do that aspect well.

But the character writing is top notch. That is why you should definitely watch it.

It's one of the best Comic book series I've watched. It doesn't even feel like a comic book series at all, since all the characters are normal humans, no cape shît at all.
