lexy2014:
if people in nigeria "barely pay tax", which money are politicians stealing and using to enrich themselves?
Nigeria has a tax collection rate of 10% one of the lowest in Africa and the world at large.
About 70% of taxes in Nigeria comes from cooperate tax and salary earners, so will reducing tax do for the p00r màsses?
Virtually nothing because they were not paying taxes in the first place.

U are asking where politicians get money?
U have any idea that we have natural resources in large deposits across the federation?
U have any idea about loans and grants?

We are not a high taxing country but I know the average Nigerian don't bother verifying anything provided it's trending on Twitter and other platforms.

We need this Bill .

If the politicians are almost crying about it, then I am in full support.

I encourage everyone to read this. Senator Musa Illallah provided an intelligent argument into why the coast guard shouldn't exist. This is the sort of debates and intelligent counterarguments we need from the senate.

I keep telling you guys that the APC is strictly populated by psychopaths and retárds, you think I'm joking. Just take a look at this disaster of a bill that clashes with the constitution and other structures already in place and arrogating powers to itself from nowhere. These people don't think about implications in that party, just brazen impunity cool

Not only waterways but roadways.

Tinubu wailed all over the southwest region for more than 12 years for Nigeria to be restructured politically.

Tinubu became president, all he and his group are after is chasing shadows but leave the substance that has kept Nigeria disunited and limping.

In as much as we don't like hearing this, taxing in Nigeria is never on the high side, u can say some local revenue collection should be stopped, how reducing taxes in a country where people barely pay tax is becoming prominent is what I don't understand.
Which of the people are barely paying the tax? the working class, traders or businessmen?

Traders, most of the tax in Nigeria comes from cooperate businesses and civil servants, out tax income is 10% one of the lowest in the Africa and the world at large, so how did "tax should be reduced" become a mainstream talk in Nigeria?
How?

Wrong! Traders and workers pay tax. It businessmen that don't pay.

what have they done with the money?

The bill should be encouraged, our navy has no impact on sea safety, only care about bunkering.

They want to use that as an avenue to grab land... They should keep their madness in the north. Oh! The rivers are down south. Tomorrow they will give someone that has never stayed close to a river for up to one year to be the head of the organization. Probably someone that studied Islamic studies. Lol!

They don't just want anything to come up so far it's on the southern boarders. These crop of senators should be educated. The coast guard is not fully a military outfit.

It carries out jobs such as surveillance and patrol of maritime waters and wade off intruders, pirates and Interlopers such as illegal Chinese finishing boats within our territorial waters. They can go to international waters and do whatever they like but within our waters hell no.

Moreso, it helps to avoid snuggling of any kind, be it drugs , contrabands and so on. So to avoid duplication , all other sister outfits needs to relinquish their job speciations except the Nigerian navy who they will work hand in hand with . Instead of duplicating duties on international waters.

Our discussion on this particular topic is about tax, I already out figures on that.

Consequently, what they do with money, is also not the reason why we are having this discussion and when that discussion arises, I will reply u on that.

I haven't told u that traders don't pay taxes, I told u that the largest percentage of income tax in Nigeria comes from cooperate businesses and civil servants, civil servants are also referred to as workers.
How are taxes stiffling businesses in Nigeria?

For example the import taxes that flunctuates based on the exchange rate hads made it expensive for importers to import stuffs like cars and car parts. I personally know 2 nigerians based abroad that used to send at least 3 containers of car parts they don't do it anymore. It means jobs loss for clearing/ forwarding companies, no revenue to d govt, expensive parts. Also govt can sell crude oil at a determined domestic rate to indigenous refiners while still selling to its normal clients at intl rate. Bros this thing no hard

We are not talking about who sells or buys crude oil, I'm sure I mentioned u because of ur statement on tax.

Imports are reducing, exports are increasing so it can't mean loss of job for clearing and forwarding companies and those exporting different items pay revenue to the govt.

This is a total diversion from the reason why were talking in the first place but I know Africans don't really stay on topic when talking, I have had this experience with Rwandans, Kenyans, South Africans, Ghanaians etc.

Why did u cut out a particular section of the comment?
The comment I replied talked about how taxes should be reduced, I have explained that taxes are not high reducing them or not won't change anything, if u are looking for another talk, we can talk about it in another related topic, for now, I stick to the reason why I replied the comment I replied in the first place.
