I went through this thread https://www.nairaland.com/8261562/electric-cooker-really-prepaid-meter/2#132792231 The Op was asking for infrared cooker if it's prepaid meter friendly and some guys suggested induction cooker. I made further research about the induction cooker and decided to go look for it myself at the market. You hardly see the induction cooker in shops. What's readily available is infrared. I priced one infrared and the woman said it's 32k last. I asked her about induction and she was convincing me that they're all the same. Oya give me the induction, she said she doesn't have. Where can I get it? Check the next shop. That's how I searched until I got it in a guy's shop. It's not even displayed in the shop, he has to go bring it from the warehouse because many people don't use it. Many people don't use it because it selects pots. The pot must have a bottom that supports induction. In other words, the bottom must be attracted to magnets. Finally, the guy agreed to sell to me for 25k. But I didn't pay. I had to go look for the pots that will work with it. Unfortunately, some of the pot sellers don't know about the induction pot. The ones I saw for those who knew what I was looking for called it 140k. Some 130k some 120k ans so on. The pots come in set and they don't sell them separately. I entered many shops until I finally saw a set of 3 pots for 60k. The cheapest so far. It was above my budget but I closed my eyes to pay for it. And then, went back to pay for the induction cooktop. I took them home and tried it with beans first. The thing can cook fast oo. I selected the pressure cook button and it showed 1000wats. Before I knew it, the thing started boiling. The advantage of the cooktop is that it is faster and doesn't consume much energy. Also, it doesn't heat the environment. It's neat. The only disadvantage is that you must use magnetic pot which is expensive but it's worth it.

Here is the set of pots. Notice where they indicated the induction bottom. But if this is not indicated in the carton, you can use a magnet to test if the bottom is magnetic. Once it attracts the magnet, it will work with the cooker

I thought Nigerians would've jumped on this technology by now. Wow, we're behind, sha. It reminds me of when people claimed washing machines were inferior or the time when mongrels debated that manual transmission surpassed automatic. If such was true, the white people would not innovate past manual options. |

nlreserve:What's your take on the power consumption ? |
| Re: I Finally Got The Induction Cooker And Tried It by nlreserve(op): 12:20pm On Nov 14, 2024 |
doggedfighter:It's more friendly than gas. I used pressure cooker setting for my beans and it rated 1000w. It didn't take up to 1 hours for me to finish the cooking. But assuming it took 1 hours to cook, that means it used 1unit of my prepaid and 1unit here Costs about N250. That means I used 250 naira gas to cook my beans but is that possible? Moreover, it has lower rating for other type of cooking like steaming, frying and so on. So, you can use as low as 200w, 300w, 800w and even even higher depending on what you are cooking. |

You have money o. What prompted this purchase? Curiosity or you are trying to drop your overhead costs of cooking with gas? |

pocohantas:Gas is expensive and the price keeps rising daily. This one looks much better. Op I want to ask, inverter AC and this cooker which one consumes units more? |
| Re: I Finally Got The Induction Cooker And Tried It by pocohantas(f): 4:31pm On Nov 14, 2024 |
Tallesty1:Hahaha. Except it has the one of 4 to 6 burners, I am not attracted to single burner cookers. Nazgul:I get it now. Seeing he bought the cooker and went further to buy signature pots for it, I had to ask. |
| Re: I Finally Got The Induction Cooker And Tried It by Nazgul: 4:41pm On Nov 14, 2024 |
pocohantas:It would definitely have models with more than one burner. But 6...Haba, that's way too much. For me 2 is OK. Wetin I wan cook? Besides he confirmed that it cooks fast. pocohantas:You're right sha. I myself I'd like to know the overhead cost of gas he spends per month along with the units he spends monthly on this cooker. To rush go buy something for this Tinubu regime isn't wise o. One has to sit down and do his calculations so as to ensure that you're not jumping from frypan to fire. Cos policy can change at anytime. |

Nazgul:6 is good on days you want to cook bulk. I cook in bulk once a month and I use a 4 burner cooker. I am upgrading to 5 or 6. You're right sha. I myself I'd like to know the overhead cost of gas he spends per month along with the units he spends monthly on this cooker.I have been seeing a fine charcoal stove all over social media too. People are exploring different alternatives. When I am home we cook big soup and stew with our firewood. Subsequently we defrost and make eba or boil rice, spag or yam in few minutes. I think energy costs has to go somewhere, either gas, electricity or something sha. |
| Re: I Finally Got The Induction Cooker And Tried It by Nazgul: 5:05pm On Nov 14, 2024 |
pocohantas:6 burners would definitely consume more units. Meaning that the purpose would be defeated cos your units would be draining like a leaking bucket. It's just like using 6 burners on gas simultaneously. You'll definitely consume more gas that someone using 1 or 2 burners. pocohantas:Hmmm...I've been seeing it too o. The thing full my WhatsApp status. The one in the screenshot I uploaded is 30k. People are seriously searching for alternatives.

The one in the screenshot I uploaded is 30k.Yea, that is the charcoal stove. They said it cooks fast and 1k charcoal can go a long way. Wo, I am tired. Anywhere you put head, give it a few months and price go change. |

I tried to compare my induction cooktop with my 1.5hp LG inverter AC. My AC is 1,200watts. While my cooktop is 1,800watts even though I use the pressure cook of 1000watts and I can still select lower power depending on what I'm cooking. So, I can say the induction cooktop consumes less than inverter AC that runs for a long period. I also compared with my electric kettle and my kettle is 1,700 watts rated. If I use 1000wats to make soup, it won't be up to 1hour to cook. So, it's costing me less than N250 for the electric units. Even if gas costs the same N250 to make same soup, I would prefer induction cooktop provided there's light. I just love simplicity and easy life.
