Adegboruwa Asks Lagos Governor Sanwo-Olu To Tackle Lekki-epe Expressway Gridlock by Great100000(op): 9:37am On Nov 16, 2024
Adegboruwa advised that all abandoned projects in the areas should be rehabilitated in order to create a sense of inclusion in governance.

Human rights lawyer, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, SAN, has raised concerns over traffic gridlock at the Lekki-Epe road, calling on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to show responsibility.

Narrating an ugly experience of the gridlock occasioned by a roadblock on Thursday in a statement made available to SaharaReporters, Adegboruwa advised that all abandoned projects in the areas should be rehabilitated in order to create a sense of inclusion in governance.

"Coming in from Ijebu-Ode area today, I had cause to pass through Epe to Lekki Phase 1 area. From Sangotedo on both sides of the road, it is a total lockdown, which may be due to road construction," he said.

"On the other side of the road inbound Sangotedo from Ajah, it is a standstill. The traffic has already extended to VGC area," he lamented, wondering how those affected will get home "tonight, given the state of the traffic".

He stated that the crisis of motoring around the Lekki/Ibeju axis should not have been an issue had the government taken proactive actions to forestall it, before now.

Citing sources, the legal luminary said that about 70% of the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of Lagos State comes from the zone which had been neglected for so long.

According to him, "the VGC link bridge has been abandoned after Governor Babajide Sanwoolu secured his second term ticket.

"The 4th Mainland Bridge project has also been abandoned, for no cogent reason. The Lekki airport project is now in dreamland.

"The High Court complex in Epe is in a sordid state of total neglect and disrepair, perpetually in darkness and as hot as hell itself," he observed. While in the mainland and other zones in Lagos, "bridges and new roads are springing up daily."

He reminded the government that Blue Line, Red Line, Purple Line and may later, Yellow Line, are being constructed in the Mainland zones with the resources of Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki zones. "Talk of robbing Peter to pay Paul".

"I honestly believe in the saying that he who pays the piper should dictate the tune of the music.

"But for divine intervention and the spirited struggle of the people, the monstrous plan of Lagos State Government was to tax these neglected people to their bones by forcing two toll points on them to muzzle them to death."

He, however, called on Governor Sanwoolu to fulfill his constitutional responsibility to the people of Eti-Osa and Ibeju-Lekki by providing them with durable infrastructure as obtainable in other zones of the State.

"Let the Governor revive all abandoned projects in these zones in order to create a sense of inclusion in governance.

"The ongoing road construction should be executed in such a way as to create room for smooth flow of traffic in order to benefit the people."

When you all want to stay in the island, you all create problems. The only solutions is to exponentially open up the water ways and create a rail system from Marina to Epe, possibly over the waterways.

I guess you missed the part he mentioned the gridlock was caused by ongoing road construction.....I know it was deliberate of you,but your tomfoolery is being reckoned.

Not only that, the writer or the person complaining did not deem it fit to mention that al the way from EPE up to the small section that was been worked on had been done the LASG, instead, he did not fail to mention that he thinks that 4th mainland and other ones have been abandoned without talking about the smooth drive from Epe up to the last part that is being worked.

Very ungrateful lot.

This one wants the government to focus all development to the Lekki axis, yet he is still lamenting about gridlock and complaining about projects that have been spread to other parts of Lagos.

You may be the one here to be called that name. He said 70% of Lagos income is coming from that axis.

You are probably in the same bandwagon with him. Where is the proof to indicate that?

The last economic data released by Lagos state Ministry of finance stated that 36% of the state's internally generated revenue came from Personal income taxes and that could have been people living all around different parts of Lagos. Another 17.4% came from tolls and collections from markets and roads tha we all know are more abundant on the mainland. 43% came from property taxes(including land allocations)iof which Ikeja GRA contributed the most in terms of value

So where is the 70% specific to Lekki axis alone coming from?

It seems you lack understanding. Adegoruwa in his statement said 70% of the Lagos income comes from that axis, the guy that I quoted said all income of Lagos comes from that axis. Meaning both are wrong base on your analysis, so what's the fuse here.

They won’t do that area. Reason is simple. The whole FESTAC belongs to the federal government. That’s been their excuse.

You see that Valentine guy of Amuwo Odofin; he’s more than useless.

I agree to disagree with the SAN,the road construction is almost finished, there's less than 5 kilometers left for the road to be finished.
The Governor has done very very well, it's a concrete road from Epe to Abraham Adesanya, and the citizens should endure the last lap of the road construction.
For those of us who live in that axis,we will always be grateful to the Governor for the total repair of the road,a little pain and eventually a lot of gain.

This man might right to some extent but his claim of robbing peter for Paul should be disregarded. The issues of lagos island is that they want governor to be taking all the responsibility without bother their local chairman house of representatives and senators. Most of the projects carryout in mainland was done by ordinary local chairman and house of representatives.

I wonder sometime if local government or house of representatives are exist in lagos island.

And for the road government should stop patching patching that road has expired no amount of repairs can save that road from total collapse next year. From Abraham adesanya to ozumba mbadiwe need to be shutdown this ever busy road need attention.
