| Re: First Class Kings In Nigeria by RealityOfReason: 3:43pm On Nov 16, 2024 |
MuslimIgbo:Alaafin shouldn't rank above the heir and successor to Oduduwa himself. He is called Arole Odua for that reason. I understand that Alaafin was able to build an empire and exercise defacto control over most Yoruba kingdoms for a large part of the precolonial, but that's it. Oonirisa should be number one as the dejure leader, and the defacto leader i.e. Alaafin should be second. Anyways, I don't really care because I am a republican, and if I had overriding powers, I would scrap the traditional institution and political clergy in Nigeria. |

Every state have their own first class chiefs. Only a few are influencial beyond their region, states or even domain. Some of these people are not even known in states other than thiers. |

lexy2014:The Governors of each respective states have the powers to enthrone, dethrone and upgrade. At least each Nigerian state has one first class king. When it comes to influence, power and wealth of these monarchs, that's another ballgame entirely. |
| Re: First Class Kings In Nigeria by lagonovo: 3:59pm On Nov 16, 2024 |
By tradition, Oyos did not recognise Ooni as a king, but a priest. That's why there was no interference from Oyo or anywhere when the Modakekes chased Ooni and his fellow priests away from Ife for 13 years. However, all is history today. You are only the king of your town. nonxo007: |

Kings are not ranked by the FG but their State. Ooni, Oluwo, Ataoja and Owa of Obokun are the first class in Osun Alaafin, Soun, Olubadan are first class of Oyo Alake, Olu Ilaro, Akarigbo n Awujale are that of Ogun, etc I no understand Lagos own, e be somehow, but I know Akran, Akiolu, Ikorodu, Oloto, Oniba, Onisheri or something, Elegushi, Oniru, etc The ranking some of us give the king's are base on popularity and how long some of them have been on the throne. In the North, most of the states are having just one king that spread across domains within the state. |
