The Question we need to ask ourselves is . Would Jesus have left the pulpit and refused to preach just because some people phones were ringing ?

The truth is some of these preachers even think they are bigger than the gospel, they believe they know it all , they believe that without them their members can't do anything .
The pastor should have realised that those phones ringing may be a ploy by the devil to stop him from preaching that day , instead of confronting the issue and asking people to switch off their phones , he rather chose to leave in order to enforce his so called discipline . One of the responsibilities of pastors is also to give advice to his church members..to mentor them...not to walk away

Apostle Arome Osayi stopped preaching and left the pulpit because phones rang in the church ! Is this pride or spiritual discipline? Did Jesus stop preaching despite the noise of the crowd? Would Arome have done same if he was in secular job ? Was he disrespectful to the congregation that came to church to listen to him?

Arome is a guy I respect and as a fellow comrade in the vineyard of Christ, I believe this was excessive and unfair to the congregation who came out to listen to you. It is neither Pride or Discipline but a sign of Defeat and defending his actions made it worse, He successfully showed the devil how to shut him up, the moment he warned the crowd he allowed the devil to possess the individual with the phone not to put his or her phone on silence to see what wil happen. ..abi... one of the responsibilities of a pastor is to mentor and advise their church members..that is why you are a pastor to correct them..to show them the right way..and the right way to behave... Jesus preached and also advise his disciples and other people... walking away is wrong

Modified: Haven seen his previous videos from years back on this matter of phone ringing, and also the recent one where he walked out, I don't think he is wrong. In short, I agree with him. He has been preaching about the need for discipline in the body of Christ and why we need to show reverence to God's word when we come for it. Eventhough I think the person whose phone rings should be asked to leave instead of the whole congregation paying for one person's carelessness, he said he finds it difficult to ascend in the spirit when there are phone distractions. So even if the person at fault leaves, he won't still be able to impart much on the congregation( though God can be merciful).

My conclusion is that disciplinary measures like this may appear cold and unloving but at the end they would prove effective.

OP asked an important question ... Would Jesus have done same? What's your answer? Aren't Christians supposed to be followers of Christ?...following in his footsteps? Discipline is part of life and that angle was just the way it is. Person wey dem phones dey ring suppose don switch off, silence or put their phone on vibration.
It's common sense! Something closer happened in Matthew 21:12 when Jesus flogged traders in temple and drop them out. Cos He doesn't want distraction. Hearing ringtones in church creates distraction. Especially during sermon that there's meant to be silence for the msg to enter ya soul.

And after flogging the traders, Jesus presented one of the greatest sermons ever but your pastor feels he is more than Jesus Christ and he has the right to walk out on the church. Your pastor lacks discipline and respect for the household of God.

But still, I can't judge him because many are the times I have also find myself in this situation of making instant decisions, it can be so difficult. Hence he walk away.

It happened outside Nigeria, I think Canada.
He already warned about phones ringing because a phone just rang, and was telling them he would leave if another should ring, as he was ending his statement, a phone rang out loud.
He was speaking to church leaders or teachers not whole congregation, a retreat or seminar.
He came back the next day to continue the program.
I'm not so familiar with him except seeing his pictures, just stumbled on the video on YouTube sometimes ago

The diligent worshippers also gained from the sermon. They gained that discipline has no compromise. That alone is enough sermon for their day(s) or years. That action will resonate worldwide that Pastors shouldn't shun indiscipline. Whole the congregants too go learn and grow to imbibe discipline. So you see, the devil keep losing.
