Since last month when a new national coalition, Save Democracy Mega Alliance 2027 (SDMA’27), launched a campaign to amend Nigeria’s constitution to remove the President’s authority over the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and state governors’ power over the State Independent Electoral Commissions, SIECs, quite a number of Nigerians have applauded the move.https://dailypost.ng/2024/11/18/nigerians-intensify-campaign-to-strip-president-of-powers-over-inec-judiciary/

![]() I remember being taught back then in secondary school via government studies that there's what we call "separation of powers"..... Now I'm a grown up and I've come to realize that most things we were taught in schools are only on paper but not applicable in real life.... Nigeria will never get better, not until our different arms of govt are made to operate separately without the other Meddling into the other's affairs.. |

I have said this before. No need of protesting #EndBadGovernment Nigerians have to fight from the root Our main problem is that INEC are not independent. Each INEC chairman works for the current president that appoints him. Assume that a weak or simple man like Goodluck decided not to leave power, PDP would have still be in power till today. Our votes don't decide who wins election in Nigeria except where they intentionally allows it to count. INEC have to be independent for Nigeria to progress. Once a leader knows that him and his party will be voted out if he fails to perform. He will sit up @least we will only have one tenure fuckup But someone will start misbehaving immediately he was sworn in because he knows that Nigerians can't vote him out. All he needs to do is to appoint his man, party supporter as INEC chairman, CJN and everything will be sealed. |

This is the way forward. An elected umpire and not selected. if INEC cannot elect it own official then transparency in future election is just a pipe dream. Apel147:Good men and women don't fall from heaven the are made via the right process on ground. |

let us be sincere Bubari didn't really supported Tinubu...Tinubu won because people voted for him. Rigging alone could not have made Tinubu President. Blame the people that voted for Tinubu. They are the cause of this mess |

President Tinubu or President Jonathan? You people don’t know whom you are dealing with at all at all. With his right hand man as Senate President? Somebody that he imposed despite opposition from bitter and angry kindergartens including local champion Orji Uzor Kalu. You people like playing too much. |

Inec RECs and national Chairman should come from the rank and file of INEC like we have it in the police and not political appointees of the present if elections must be free and fair. |

Anyone in the opposition (whether at the state or federal level) who says he is preparing for election in 2027 under the current INEC is a comedian. For a fool and his money are soon parted. |

cjudy:You naive lots never cease to amaze me. You think the Judiciary and INEC will do better if they become independent? What would prevent them from constituting independent despotism at that time? After all, it's the same quality of humans governing us that are employed into INEC. How about we start with restructuring both the country and the moral character of the average Nigerian? |
