Shehu Sani Reacts,FIRS Boss Says It Is Unfair For Lagos, Rivers, FCT To Have 70% by PressMyButton(op): 11:45am On Nov 19, 2024
A former federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani has reacted to the statement made by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji on Monday.

The Guardian had earlier reported that the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, had in a meeting with members of the national assembly described the allocation of 70% of value-added tax (VAT) proceeds to Lagos, Rivers, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as unfair to the remaining 34 states.

Reacting to the statement, Senator Shehu Sani stated on his verified Twitter page on Tuesday; "The revelation made yesterday by the FIRS Chairman before the House of Reps that presently only 4 states corner the 70% of VAT namely Lagos, Rivers, Oyo and FCT is unjust."

He added; "This is a strong justification for the Tax reform. He also cited an example of the MTN paying most of its VAT to Lagos while all the states are paying for its services."

The Peoples Democratic Party chieftain stated further; "I still admonish the critics of the Bill to remove their political lenses and read the document thoroughly."

He noted; "The Bill will ensure equity, fairness and allocate more resources to all other states. All the sentiments raised against the Bill is not contained in the Bill. The Bill should be supported to end the prevailing Tax injustice in the country."

The Chairman of FIRS says it's unfair that only four states out of 36 states get a massive 70% of VAT derivation, thus a need for a review for equity.
Ndume and other Northern stakeholders opposing the bill need to have a rethink. The bill aims at a fairer and more equitable distribution to all states. Tinubu is not driven by sectional interests, otherwise, he would have retained the status quo, as Lagos gets the largest share.

Funny thing is, other than ASUU, I haven't seen anybody with a cogent reason (derived from the content of the bill) to antagonize the bill.

Ironically, the reform would favor them (Lagos, Rivers, FCT) more as they contribute the most even in this present unreformed format.

If Tinubu succeed on this tax reform policy, most state may go bankrupt as they are too docile to upend FAAC dependence and go all out on their various tax programs to generate income for themselves.

Some governors are excessively useless when its about economic ways to prosperity.

Those states with useIess governors are very comfortable recruiting those governors while demanding good governance from federal gov, a good example of such states are; Benue(tops the list on this one, people from that state are always forming woke but don't have a single leader that's good), Kogi, Nasarawa, Taraba, Niger and several others, they need to pushed to the wall so the people can wake up and demand good leadership from their state.
