That's not a cobra and the black color doesn't make it venomous. This looks like an harmless RAT SNAKE and is not venomous.

The snake you're describing is not even found in West Africa. I don't see the head of this one, but that shiny black skin? Only a cobra looks like that in these parts. Still, I'm open to learning that it's not a cobra.

After I peeled the outer membrane with hot water, I still used hot water to wash it clean...in case!!
