CRV 2006 Gulping Fuel Like Water by DanielWoods(op): 2:34am On Nov 18, 2024
My Honda CRV is gulping fuel like water. What could be the cause? Takes about 20k fuel for a 50 minutes - 1hr journey. I've changed plugs, worked of exhaust system. But the. it keeps happening. Could it be because the fuel guage is faulty?

Also, it wouldn't change gears smoothly until I pull away from the gas pedal. I had to go change transmission fluid. But then, it's still happening.

I'd appreciate your suggestions and responses.

Your means of calculating fuel consumption isn't correct.
It should be based on distance not time. A 1hr journey could give you 120-130km in a good road. 20k fuel is just about 17liters.
Just scan and share the engine codes here

I have a vehicle with similar engine and transmission. Accord 2006 .

I also have fuel consumption issues, I have made some improvement on the fuel consumption, but it would be very hard to give you recommendations until you scan the vehicle, something as simple as a loose wire, MAF Sensor or even dirty air filter can cause all the issues you are experiencing. You can buy a cheap OBD2 scanner for between 2-5k , it connects via Bluetooth to your phone.

When you do that , share the error codes, so we can help.

For the issue of changing gears, check the wires leading to your shift solenoids, its possible they are not properly clipped on.

You still need to scan the vehicle, else you might end up spending money you shouldn't spend. Buy the cheap scanner and scan your car .

Thank you so much. I've decided to follow up with this advice. I'll first buy the scanner and bring back info on every detail

I get. Yunno sometimes, one writes how he speaks. Forgive my bad. It was about 60km. I felt 17 litres on 60km is too poor.

I think your speedometer is calibrated in miles. That will will be 96km. So 17lliters means 5.64km/l. Still much sha. Scanning will reveal more details

Are you using AC? Is there hold up?

No hold up. Just like 13 police checkpoints along that route and dangerous portholes that you either dodge or slow down.

I don't often use AC. My AC gas leaked and I've actually ignored it. Hoping ti go do good work on it by weekend
