Now listen to me, before sacking a staff in this harsh economic weather, there are few things you need to consider. First you must try to find out the attitude of that staff prior to this very act, try to know the kind of staff he/she has been before now.....if it suggests the same behaviour, then go straight to the point by reliving him/her from his/duties......

But if her conduct in the past has been cordial, then go ahead and give him/her query, after that...indefinite suspension may let's say one week without pay. By so doing, the person will regret his/her action and will never engage in such again.

Then others too who has such tendency will lurn.(in VDM voice)

An Clothing Organization that sells Baggy Jeans, (One for N20000), Increased price to N35000, due to the Harsh Economic situation of the Tinibu Govt.

Most Clients complained but later Adjusted when the company explained things with them.

Now a Dubious Client still wanted to buy 1 Jean @the N20000 Old Price and gave the amount to a Staff
(Who is her Family friend) to pay and Hoodwink the secretary to write Receipt for her.

The Staff agreed in this Plan and Tried to carry it out but FAILED.

So Question is, What is the appropriate Punishment for the Staff?
*SACK?

Query and dismissal.
Fraud has zero tolerance in my firm.
*SUSPENSION?
*Or QUERY?

I don't think I understand the nature of the offense per se. Was the staff trying to get a receipt of 35k while paying 20k for his client/relative? If so she deserves to serve some form of suspension (if her response to the query is satisfactory).

If she was trying to use staff privileges to get the company to sell the item for 20k (assuming the company has a special discount package for the staff), then all the punishment she needs is to answer a query and then probable have her staff privileges taken away.

I don't think it's an offense that deserves a sack either way. Harsh punishments like that can reduce other staff morale and prevent whistleblowing in the long run, as no one will want to be responsible for another person's sack in this harsh economy
Oga, remove emotion from business.

YES, That's why I used that word Hoodwink. smiley

The Client who sent the Staff wanted a Receipt bearing 35K. undecided

From what I heard, They Connived and the Staff Told the Secretary that the Client (Her Family friend) have sent the Money ("35K) but there was Bank Network issues. sad

But later she now claimed the Network FAILED totally,
That the Secretary should just hold N20,000, thinking that that the Secretary has written Receipt. sad
Since the said staff claimed network failure, the company should accept that on the face value and hold on to the receipt if the Secretary had written one. The Company should its mode of operation. By not issuing receipt until payment is confirmed. Tagging the staff as being dubious is too hasty at the stage because the staff may just decided to borrow the Customer that 20 thousand naira. The Company should insist on complete payment before writing of receipt and release of goods to customers.

You can't conclude that the said staff lied about network issue. As that will be hasty, unfair and judgment based on emotions. There are cases that money sent were reversed so don't based your judgment on emotions nor suspicion but facts and evidences.

From your explanation is the Company mode of operandi that needed adjustment. The Staff hasn't committed any offense

I will fire that staff. You don't forgive greedy Nigerians o. Once caught, do justice. They don't repent but rather victimize the innocent person that raised alarm and look for corrupt people to network with.

This is a case of fraudulent action, appropriate punishment by Company is outright dismissal(sack). query, followed by outright sack without compensation.

Don't sack her, just give her a serious warning
A staff who steals from you is loyal to you, lol.

Who knows how long she has been doing this fraud and just got caught now?

How long she has stayed there is exactly the reason to sack her!
