NEW YORK — A banana duct-taped to a wall, titled Comedian by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, sold for $6.2 million at Sotheby’s on Wednesday. Cryptocurrency entrepreneur Justin Sun secured the piece, which sparked heated bidding starting at $800,000. shocked

The conceptual artwork, a viral sensation since its 2019 debut, includes a certificate of authenticity allowing the buyer to recreate it with a new banana. Sun plans to eat the banana in a performance, calling it a “cultural phenomenon bridging art, memes, and cryptocurrency.”

Sotheby’s hailed Cattelan as a provocateur challenging art norms, with Comedian igniting debate on the value of modern art. This sale underscores the unpredictable nature of art’s evolving market.

This banana sale is a serious issue! How can someone spend $6.2 million on something that’s just duct tape and a banana? It just shows that some people have too much money and don’t know how to use it. Instead of helping the hungry, they’re buying art that could spoil in days. Nigeria doesn’t need this kind of madness; we have better things to do with our money.

By the way, if you’re looking for a shared apartment in Lekki or Lagos Island, I help people who want to contribute money for house rent or short lets. If you have an extra room and can accommodate someone for a fee, please contact me!
