When I first visited onitsha in early 2000 I was really shocked to know nigeria have a place like this.

I am from rivers state but truth be told this looks like America compare to our port harcourt that everywhere looks like slum. Look at our port harcourt. Are you proud? Port harcourt is worse than war thorn village, despite the huge oil revenues this is what most of port harcourt looks like. Shame

AwkaFinest:
Very dirty looking pictures. Looking like a war torn zone. Even Afghanistan looked better during the war.

This is beautiful. As a rivers state indigene, I wish we can demolish port harcourt and give it a decent housing like these ones in Onitsha. Onitsha is a very great city. Landlord in port harcourt should copy building decent homes instead of slums and ghettos that port harcourt is known for.

I prefer the northern part of the City.
It's a pity lives now worth less than a trash in the South East. Owerri used to be my favorite place, but South East is a no-go area, at least, for now.

The difference is that in America (and the rest of the civilised world) they build with thought for PEDESTRIANS.

They don't just build roads with ZERO thought or care for pedestrians.

They build sidewalks and covered drains on EVERY street.

Until Onitsha gets to the stage where they have SIDEWALKS AND COVERED DRAINS, they are still Third World shiit.

I don't care how many 5 story apartment buildings they have.

Ol'boy stop positing this nonsense here. Poor backward easy to satisfy mumugerian mentality. Once Biafra is restored all these nonsense in all Biafran territory will be destroyed and new cities will be built with a sewage system, pipe water, uninterrupted electricity, roadside walk pavements, viable hospitals, a top school/education system, good road networks (no bumps), social services, public ambulances, efficient fire service and so many other things that make a city.

Each time I pass the Onitsha Bridge mini New York come to my mind!

Nigeria is a great country but we have a monumental failure in choosing our leaders
Onitsha has a quirky landscape with its ocean of dusty 3,4,5 and even 6 storey apartment buildings, Very unique and very Igbo....Fabulous ......I just love it! With water tight security and good public administration, adventurous tourists will just love to visit......at least for the thrill !

Unfortunately, our governors and civil service have no idea what tourism is.............we can actually develop a tourism circuit based on our deep igbo traditions..........and spiritual and ancestral history.

many do not know that Igbos are considered as one of the lost 10 northern Isrealite tribes ,especially among African Americans.........they have sent emissaries to NRI in the recent past.............let us develop a month long cultural tourism in August of every year............Visit to Nri,Obi of Onitsha Ofala, New yam festival in Nnewi or else where.........Igbo ukwu museum exhibition etc all these festivities should be held one after the other in August or summer in the western hemisphere..................even the august church and village meetings should be formalized too.Let us think out of the box!

It is the most aesthetically pleasing multi storey building cluster in Nigeria. Mind you this area of Onitsha is the area where the poor live in Onitsha. Onitsha is the greatest city in igboland

Is planting of trees in Fegge a sin?

Just concrete everywhere, no trees, no art, no aesthetic, no allure. No modern design. Just cement literally everywhere.

True, just that the area no get arrangement AT ALL... Small roads and the buildings are just scattered here and there... It will be surprising if government have approval for many of those buildings...

For some of the buildings, they are so close, you can actually almost give something to someone in the upstairs of the other building from your own building... Lol

Onitsha people get money sha

Onitsha is the best planned city in igboland and it has the best housing arrangements even in the whole of Nigeria. Look at Owerri it should be demolished and rebuilt with decent housing arrangements like Onitsha

Pictures: Owerri

Well planned? Yes.
Doesn't dispute the fact that those multi-storey buildings were designed without a touch of aesthetics.

The city itself is without any form of aesthetic. It's just a dusty street with cobweb-like power lines.

Pardon my bad review tho.
Onitsha South is mostly a business hub, so there are little or no trees in that region, but you can expect a touch of aesthetics in other regions.

Although the current gov. of Anambra state has shared coconut plants for every household in Onitsha so everything takes time.

Hello everyone I work with the civil service and under personal history I am advised not to fill in government as activity type. But the issue I am having is that I have a reference letter with the government logo on it. Hope I can go ahead.. pls advise
I am contacting you in reference to the above post concerning personal history as I am currently in the same boat as you were. What did you end up putting as activity type? Please, kindly help out.

Sometimes I feel the true population of Anambra state is underreported. I know most of them are outside the state, still the share number of those occupying all these buildings am seeing is in millions.
Anambra population is nothing less than 12m Igbos.
