I Am Qualified, Ex-Lagos Govs Not Better Than Me - Obasa by fergie001(mod): 8:36pm On Nov 21, 2024
The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has hit back at his detractors, asserting that he is qualified to become the Governor of Lagos State.

Speaking after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu presented his ₦3 trillion budget proposal for the 2025 fiscal year, Obasa addressed allegations from political opponents who had misconstrued his efforts to promote the All Progressives Congress (APC) as part of a personal agenda to run for the governorship in 2025.

Obasa clarified that his primary goal was to help advance the APC through the Mandate group, emphasising that his ambition to become governor was secondary.

However, he reaffirmed that he was fully qualified for the position.

“May I use this medium to sensitise us more on the need to build and sustain our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), regarding our focus for 2027. We need to continue to mobilise people just as I do frequently,” Obasa said.

He continued, “I have made it a personal task to mobilise people on the platform of Mandate, which has been misconstrued by some political detractors as being a selfish aspiration on the ground for me to become governor of the state. There is the need, however, to correct this wrong impression. My concern is about building our party, and whatever we do is mainly for this cause.”

Addressing his critics directly, Obasa stated, “To the blackmailers who have embarked on the mission to distort and redefine our mission, let me state it unequivocally here, our intention is to promote our party on the platform of Mandate.”

He added, “Also, becoming governor is secondary; it is something that I have not given serious consideration. Nevertheless, that does not mean I am too young or lack experience to run; whereas, those who have been before me are not better off.”

Obasa also took the opportunity to counter claims from critics who had suggested that he sought to validate his candidacy by paying for a blood relation in Ojo.

“Of course, I have never denied the fact that I am OBASA,” he said. “But rather, I have never claimed to be related to Onikoyi, Oniru, or any of the other popular Lagos families as the case may be. I can indeed never run from the fact that I am related to my Obasa family in Ojo. But I do not need local validity to contest or run. If eventually I am contesting, I will do so from Agege!”

The Speaker further emphasised that, under democracy, the legislative arm of government must remain independent.

“This House, of course, recognises this and will always be so, even though we work hand-in-hand with other arms of government. It is also important to state here that this House is a sanctuary and temple, just like every other temple anywhere where we all worship.”

Obasa warned, “No one will violate any temple and expect the gods to accept his or her sacrifice. And if such happens, there must be an appease to the gods to accept such atonement. No amount of intimidation or coercion will disintegrate or change the belief of all the members of this institution!”

He assured Governor Sanwo-Olu that the House would carefully scrutinise the budget, as is customary, but also made it clear that the legislature would remain resolute in its role. “We will never be disgraced, abused or ridiculed in the name of creating a seamless working ambiance.”

Obasa concluded with a proverb, saying, “Let me also emphasise that those who live in glass houses must not throw stones as the saying goes. This also brings to my mind, according to our people: eni ba yara logun ngbe. Meaning, the god of iron recognises the swift ones. In other words, those who are facilitating or planning to interfere in this House or destroy the cohesion of this institution should also be prepared for the same fate.”

Another war coming in Lagos State politics. Obasa is out of Lagos state politics. Tinubu will prefer Seyi Tinubu than Obasa that’s over ambitious to become the Lagos state governor by every means

Seyi might be governor but that's after tinubu presidency is over. I know they are wise enough to not make him contest while his dad is president.

Yes he can be because the people have been bought and they are poor.

Yes Seyi was not prepped up today, they started it a long time ago, with that other guy who was HOS.

APC may not rule forever, nothing lasts forever like PDP. It was PDP governors who let the enemy in and they lost. PDP even boasted they'll be there for 65 years but look at the what the 2014 class of PDP Governors do to their party. We had nPDP and they gave the party away because their interests within their party was not treated farily according to them. When interests align and you force yourself on people, you will see how they will become snitches.

Before Sanwoolu there had been factions who wanted to come in. EVEN the current deputy made a compromise to be Sanwo's deputy. He wanted to be Governor himself. We know the story of BRF and why they didn't want him for 2nd term so that student does not outshine the master. They later changed the story that Tinubu knows how to spot talents cheesy

Now, all they are looking at is their equation of the turn of Muslims. That is why the Muslims are coming out and the ones who didn't use to identify as Muslims are now showing us they are.

Obasa
Seyi
Gbaja
Hamzat
Fomer HOS, I can't remember his name now

Have you seen a common factor?

If Seyi is qualified to run, then GRV is. After all, they are about the sams age.

Obasa is following the pattern of lawmakers who became Governor. Amaechi, Amosun and typical politicians. What can work against them is that they are see finish. People are tired of the same and the same and PDP has been knocking on this door. The death of Funso Williams affected them and Agbaje's first run with DPA is a reminder that never say never. Don't even put down the effort of GRV. Things can swing and the calculations they think will remain in their equation will change in a split second.

it is 2027 that will show the hypocrites we have in Nigeria politics. You know they are not even ashamed these days. a lot of them will deceive baba at the top and disappoint omo baba at the bottom. It will be too much to handle for father to save his seat and put his son there. The people behaving like happy slaves will soon show their might soon. They won't want to offend the President in public and they will show fake loyalty. If Tinubu himself could make a deal with Atiku in 2003 to save himself from Obasanjo's FG might then, what makes them think the enemy is not within?

We will be here hopefully watching how it plays out. I just want the person who has our best interest to be there.

Sophisticated people...

These are the same people that claim to be exposed and enlightened.

A TOUT will be projected as GOVERNOR and you will believe these people when they constantly use Propaganda to insult IGBOs

You are then very foolish if you do

Just imagine OBASA that shared #200 bread as constituency assistance during covid lockdown.

Yoruba are easy to subjugate because they have herd mentality.

If OBASA says that IGBOs must leave LAGOS as a campaign speech, same YORUBA will support him 100%.

For the 1 NIGERIA IGBOs and other tribes..

Good morning
