🇷🇺 President Vladimir Putin has confirmed that Russia tested a hypersonic intermediate-range missile in an assault on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro, Ukraine.

What is the Oreshnik, Russia’s new ballistic missile?

The new intermediate-range ballistic missile, Oreshnik, which means hazel tree in Russian, is a nuclear-capable weapon that has not been previously mentioned publicly.

The Pentagon said it is based on the “RS-26 Rubezh” intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).

Hypersonic missiles travel at speeds of at least Mach 5 – five times the speed of sound – and can manoeuvre mid-flight, making them harder to track and intercept.

The missile can have three to six warheads, military expert Viktor Baranets wrote in the Komsomolskaya Pravda tabloid.

Missile was so massive, so fast, and so furious that the enemies initially thought Russia dropped a nuclear bomb. They practically had to wait for any signs of life hours after to confirm it wasn’t.

Anyways. Yesterday, humanity witnessed for the first time, real time deployment of an ICBM in combat. The weapon Russia launched had 18 MIRVs(independently targetable re-entry vehicles). The warheads were not armed but if each of them was armed with a nuke, nothing less than 8-12 million people would have died yesterday.

The missile is known to travel at speeds up to or even exceeding mach 15. Each warhead, after separation was suspected to be traveling at 7km/s. There is no known anti-air or missile defense system that can stop a missile traveling at that speed. Indeed there is non that can stop an ICBM in its re-entry phase.

Russia had notified the US, Britain, Germany and France two days before that missile launch which is why these countries closed their embassies in Ukraine yesterday.

No, he didn't choose. As the commander in chief, he is fighting off a bully and invaders. He isn't a coward like some people.
BTW, Putin was supposed to overrun Ukraine in 2 weeks, but it's over 3 years now and he's testing missiles microphone after all the initial gra gra.

The war in Ukraine has gone beyond Zelenskyy. It's a show of force, power and authority between Russia and the USA. Putin is still pained by the dismantling of the USSR, majorly by powers from the west, and he's doing all he can to lord over the baby countries that emerged from the USSR disintegration. A defeat to Ukraine, is a defeat to the USA. It's either the same USA will broker truce, or support Ukraine to expose Russia's weaknesses. Only time will tell.
