First-time Car Owner, Advice Me On The Car To Get by chinnyTF95(op): 12:19am On Nov 24, 2024
My budget is 6.5m. I want to get a car that will be moving me from Ajah to around Island daily.Church, supermarket and around.
Between 2007-2009 model of:
Toyota Camry
Toyota Yaris
Honda
Hyundai
Which should I go for?

What are the things I should be looking out for? From registration to accident and stuff.

I don't like stress, the one that will stress me less. I don't want to date my mechanic😭 and I'm a first time driver too. I learnt last year.
If you also have Apapa-foreign used car dealer you trust, help a young babe who have saved for two years to get her first car. I am patient too. To get the best deal.

Judging by your being a first timer plus the current situation of the country, go for a Corolla LE. It's easy to maintain, and fuel-efficient. I know this because I use it.

Buy the Yaris. Leave Corolla and others alone.

Don't buy the 2007 - 2009 Camry especially the 4 plug engine.

Toyota Yaris is good and compact, go for that if you like very small vehicles.

2007 Toyota Corolla, well maintained(possibly, few months used)

Toyota Rav 4, can be handy for its toughness

For the Honda, you can aim for a well used 2009 - 2012 Civic

Honda CRV can be handy too, well used/maintained CRV

Hyundai? Elentra or Accent are good options or 2010 - 2012 Kia cerato, well used.

I hope this guides you and narrow down your options to make better choices on the car to buy.

I would strongly advise you decline, there are better options like the 206 which has a better fuel consumption given the situation with fuel in Nigeria.

No matter the decision you make, never avoid Toyota pls. Reason be it that, parts are very much available, and when you get a good 1, fuel consumption is low, it's durable and many more. Unlike the not so popular brands. As a first time owner, I would advise to go for something you can easily maintain and won't stress your bank account because owning a car is like having a family or dating the last born of the house whose parents spoilt the living day light out of, you must spend. The 1 you buy will determine how often you spend and how much you spend.

Lastly, go for a 4plug engine. Avoid V6 and V8 because now the V6 feels a lot like the V8 because, like I said earlier, the situation with fuel in Nigeria

Get the Yaris and have peace, easy to drive, easy to maintain, fuel efficient, parts are everywhere and it's a durable and reliable car.

Whatever you do, avoid the 2003-2012 Camrys and Corollas unless you can abide the risk of car vandalism, car theft, or even being gunned down so that the car can be taken away from u.

Those cars and their parts are presently very expensive, hence they are in the gun sights of every car thief in this country

Camrys and Corollas are reliable and averagely fuel efficient when a good specimen is gotten and maintained properly, yes..but their parts cost an arm and a leg these days..so carry dat one for mind

But since this is your first car, I will advise you buy a cheaper car with cheaper maintenance costs..this is so that u can without extreme expense, get used to the rudiments of car maintenance and avoiding the shenanigans of Nigerian mechanics, who are very willing and able to even push you into debt.

For this purpose, a 2001 Corolla or 2003 Civic will do just fine....they are relatively cheap to buy and maintain, very fuel efficient and not a robbers' magnet...more importantly, they will avail you a relatively cheap and forgiving learning slope for car maintenance and basic automotive knowledge

And whatever you do, avoid Peugeots and BMWs.

Stick to Toyota and Honda for now until u know enough about cars to safely venture into using other brands which require more babysitting.

That's not true.

High fuel consumption in any vehicle can be as a result of:
1. Bad ignition plugs
2. Bad ignition coils
3. Bad injectors
4. Bad camshaft sensor
5. Bad oxygen sensor
6. Dirty engine air filter
7. Bad or no thermostat
8. Leaking exhaust
9. Gear problems or unserviced gear
10. Broken air filter manifold/hose or leaking air intake system.
11. Wrong engine oil
12. EGR verve leak
13. Bad airflow meter
14. Bad clutch plate and disc
15. Tuned engine
16. Bad driving habit
17. Cheating on your partner
18. Supporter of this current government
19. Picking up people's partners

Lol Yaris that the body usually fade up 😂
Yaris may be fuel efficiency but the body no strong
YARIS IS NOT STRONG DRON BUY GUY THAT WILL LOOSE SHAPE IN 1 year even with maintenance

Go for Toyota matrix as a woman that car strong and rugged and fuel efficiency too

Or buy Corolla the normal Uber Corolla that car strong .

Or Toyota Eco

After buying make sure tracker and better security they your car

The common cars are the easy target
Don’t park on a street that is too dull
Never park your car outside .

The way Toyota are being stolen this days no be small .
Them done they even steal pencils light nowadays
