Donald Trump has tapped Scott Bessent, a prominent hedge fund manager known for his support of deficit reduction and deregulation and a former major donor to the Democrats, to serve as the next Treasury Secretary. If confirmed by the Senate, Bessent will be the first openly gay cabinet member in a Republican administration.

Bessent has been a strong advocate for gay rights and marriage equality.

Expressing his views on societal progress, he had said in a 2015 interview, "If you had told me in 1984, when we graduated, and people were dying of AIDS, that 30 years later I'd be legally married, and we would have two children via surrogacy, I wouldn't have believed you".

This would be the second time Mr Trump is nominating an openly gay man into his cabinet. During Trump’s last administration he nominated Robert Grenell as his acting Director of Intelligence.

For the first time in American history, an openly LGBT person will lead the intelligence community, a remarkable development considering that, until relatively recently, it not only denied employment to gay and lesbian Americans but thoroughly purged them from its ranks.

While Trump’s appointment of Grenell can be criticized on other grounds, the appointment of an openly gay man to head an institution once closed to gays and lesbians is a milestone.

I never supported nor opposed Kamala, I was indifferent to both candidates.

I work in a team of 13, 5 of my colleagues are openly gays and lesbians, comfortably bring up their partners in our discussions....so guy, nothing do me.

This updated news is none of our business. It's a USA thing.

The issue was never about being gay or not. It is about the ideology being promoted by the left to foist this belief on everyone including indoctrinating and confusing kids.
