That’s an interesting one. The Chinese developed gunpowder from native mixtures of certain elements and sands etc, and were using it to make fireworks at their traditional festivals, and during war, to make explosive noises to scare the enemy.

It was these devilish Europeans that saw this, and got the idea of putting the mixture into a metal container with a small piece of iron in front (bullet), so that when you release it by shooting the gun, the iron would rush out and kill the target by its sheer explosive force!
