The Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has confirmed that the Port Harcourt Refinery in Rivers State has commenced crude oil processing.

The Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the company, Femi Soneye, announced on Tuesday that the refinery would operate at 60 per cent capacity, processing 60,000 barrels per day (bpd).

“Today marks a monumental achievement for Nigeria as the Port Harcourt Refinery officially commences crude oil processing. This groundbreaking milestone signifies a new era of energy independence and economic growth for our nation,” Soneye said on Tuesday.

The development follows years of rehabilitation work that began on May 6, 2021, and several postponements by the NNPC.

Following the announcement of the Port Harcourt Refinery’s operation, netizens took to social media, asking if it would lead to a drop in fuel prices.

A user, @TheoAbuAgada, asked, “Will the operationalization of the Portharcourt Refinery lead to a decrease in fuel prices?”

Similarly, @OkinRahman said, “Okay now we Have seen The BC That Portharcourt Refinery have Started production will Fuel Price Crash??”

Another user, @Jamaicca133, also asked, “Port Harcourt refinery begins production. So the price of PMS is expected to drop right?”

@KennyNuga said, “Nigeria has no reason to import petroleum products in 2025. Dangote refinery and portharcourt refinery will serve Nigeria and the entire West Africa.”

@Chiefudo, “Are we going to have another Dangote refinery experience when it comes to price or are we going to experience something different. Anyway, let’s wait for it to start first.”

I hope it drops to the N500 and N200 they have been demanding Dangote start selling fuel to them. These cabal just milked Nigeria until politicians who want to continue the nigerian projects put a check on their structure of importation. As it is now. It is better the cabals use Dangote as a cover/reference point and produce at around N970 then smuggle into neighbouring markets to sell at sizable profit. From consumption to production/exportation. That should put forex in private hands of the smugglers and strengthen the Naira

Venezuela has the largest oil reserve in the world with only about 15% of Nigeria's population, yet 90% of their population lives below poverty level.

Nigeria is long gone, but many people don’t realize it yet. Keep playing crude tribal and religious politics

Get yourself busy, don't let petrol pump price determine your fate, there's much money in getting busy, as a seller, there's a lot of money in today's Nigeria market, if you keep wailing and doing nothing, you will continue to suffer more than before

Drop or go up? Tinubu will never ameliorate the suffering of the masses. He will rather make things more difficult. Upon removal of subsidy, they still keep on borrowing left and right. The truth is that masses are just in it as long as Tinubu is the president. We have not seen anything yet.

We hope so but the good thing is that we will stop importation of fuel which will ease pressure dollar.

Dangote can't lose cos he will export his own to other countries, if NNPLC sell at a very low price. Let keep our fingers up to see how much our own state refineries will sell their products.
Re: Will The Price Of Petrol Drop?’ Netizens React As Port Harcourt Refinery Begins by koning: 2:47pm On Nov 26, 2024
With all 4 refineries in full production, the price of fuel should drop to N500 or less a liter.

NNPC will not sell at a low price, they are a profit making business. The price of petrol is not coming down if the price of Crude doesn't come down.
