Hi guys, as you all know that I'm a regular visitor to South east because that's where my mom's from. This coming Christmas, I want to celebrate it in South east with my mom and family and I want to dress in all Igbo native dresses from the "isiagu to the red cap" but I want to know if anybody or everybody is allowed to wear the respected red cap in Igbo land or it's only for titled men.

I am not Igbo...

I think while in the past only titled men may have been allowed to wear the red cap, nowadays anyone can wear them for fashion.

It's also possible it may still be restricted in certain places to only titled people!

It is not for titled men. You can wear the cap. Just make sure you look good and handsome on it. 😊😊

Is it allowed to wear the red cap in the village if you're not a titled man?

there's no law prohibiting it as long as I know. Igbo grooms wear the cap on their traditional marriage day. It's a traditional attire more for everyone.

It has always been wrong to wear it if you're not a titled man but wokeness has destroyed so many traditions which is why our society is struggling today. I remember growing up to see men wear white and black versions of the same cap until they perform necessary rituals before they start wearing the red cap. My uncle who was a headmaster then hated traditional titles and he always wore the white cap. Again, welcome to the woke world.

Depends where you are in Igbo land. Some are strict about it, some are not. I cannot wear it in my village, but I can wear all other places

However, the one that is very strict is the longer one you can put feathers in, the Ozo cap. You dare not wear that one anywhere in Igbo land unless you are an Ozo title holder

Red cap is for titled men. Don't wear it if you are not a titled man, or else, one day you will be in a gathering or ceremony and they will ask you to stand up and pray and break kola in Igbo tradition, then you will find yourself looking like a fool.

Lets promote our culture the right way.. though u might be free to wear it outside. You will even remove it when you see the real owners doing the rites..

I had to push for it when I went for my dad's burial and I was excused when they wanted to do some rites..

I had to fix in that same month..

If you don't have a title, don't wear the red cap. It's a privilege and not a right.
