We are not talking about a poor man that knows how much is in his box or pocket wallet.

This must be a rich guy that has saved this huge sum for future purpose, probably as a fall back to retirement.
He saved the key in a hard disk and kept probably in his library where there may be other hard disk.
He is also in a relatively save country where he will not bother about checking everyday to make sure thieves have not tampered with it.

The same thing happened to me in Lagos.
My laptop crashed and I totally forgot I had my blockchain sign-in
protocol stored on it. So I gave it to a technician to change the
hard drive for me.

That was the last time I saw my laptop, money paid to him and everything.
Well, a chance existed that I woud have remembered what I stored on the
crashed hard drive and asked him to return it to me so I could retrieve the info.

But that's how I lost 46 point something bitcoins which I bought 2010
at 0.0010 per bitcoin plus 5 bitcoins sent to my wallet address free by the man who
persuaded me to go into crypto in the first place.

I hope this man recovers from this huge setback like I did.

Even though he found it , if gotten access to it , he'll not find anything BTC there anymore ..

I remember when I was minning Ethereum back then around 2015,16-2017 ,my phone was stolen ( my small techno phone 500mb memory space ) .. I couldn't get the phone nor have access to the Ethereum while I was minning the 3rd one .. I created an account on a BTC mining site then , I was given 500000 Satoshi , when I lost the phone , I relogin from another device after about 3-6months , couldn't get them .. I was just blaming myself, I should have transfer them to Blockchain wallet , etherscan ... ..

E can't get it back ....

I lost account too , that I did Forsage on. I couldn't get back into it till today ..

There was this group I was in on Reddit around 2010 where they were always discussing about bitcoin and they were ways we where mining it back then, they also did giveaways and I swear I had up to 120BTC back then, I wasn’t taking it serious and was just doing it religiously every chance I could at the cafe, at a time I forgot all about it and was facing life and school .
