Francophone Countries Are Ditching Alliances With France And Tinubu Is Signing by kettykin(op): 11:04am On Nov 29, 2024
The recent geopolitical moves in West Africa highlight shifting alliances and evolving strategies. Chad, Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso—countries with strong historical ties to France—have taken steps to distance themselves from France in military and economic matters. This is largely influenced by dissatisfaction with France's role in their internal affairs and its perceived ineffectiveness in addressing security challenges, particularly those posed by jihadist insurgencies. The military juntas in Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, for instance, have sought to realign their foreign relations, often fostering closer ties with Russia and other partners.

In contrast, Nigeria's increasing cooperation with France may reflect a strategic effort to bolster bilateral ties in areas like trade, counterterrorism, and regional stability. Nigeria, being the largest economy in Africa, could benefit from leveraging France's influence in international finance and security, particularly in the fight against Boko Haram and other extremist groups. This cooperation might also be part of Nigeria's broader foreign policy to maintain diverse partnerships globally.

The divergence in these relationships underscores the complexity of West African geopolitics, where nations navigate historical legacies, security needs, and economic aspirations in forming alliances.

Can someone explain, is Nigeria simply taking up opportunities or betraying francophone countries or simply walking in to the same trap francophone countries did many years.

Please experts in foreign relations should advise on what this entails and how it will play out in future considering there is a new pro Russia west Africa, new pro Russia north Africa and the northern Nigeria is covertly pro Russia

Can you cite some sources to support that Francophone African countries are distancing themselves from France and why? It will further enrich this discussion.

Kunle wey dey form Sapele boy.....

Wetin concern me with a drug bagman? I like Asiwaju ruling his fiefdom in Lagos, but I hate it when he steals an election he knows someone else won!

Infact, I prefer Asiwaju to directly install governors in all SW States, like Lamidi Adedibu was doing in Oyo State from Molete.

My dear no be today una like this kind of people like Asiwaju. Anyway, where Adedibu today? Six feet, food for worms a d other creatures!

Nothing last for ever.... The Asiwaju a d his renewed shege you see today, in 2027, you shall see no more!

@OP, Your post is in contrast with reality. What you have just enunciated up there is by no means, any favourable political scheme by Nigeria. It is a dead-end move that will set us apart eventually. When I saw APC e-warriors celebrating the biggest achievement of Tinubu by visiting Emmanuel Macron in France, I said to myself Nigeria is doomed to fail. Otherwise, how can a country jettisoned by poorer African Francophone countries become all of a sudden, our bosom friend and warrants global celebration? If you understand international political history, you will never be happy doing business with France as an African country. These guys are very mean to the core, and a big selfish parasite. They come, they kill, and they loot!! Tell me how France has helped the likes of Chad, Niger, Mali, Senegal, Benin Rep, Ivory Coast, and so many others, to transform into modern countries of global repute, even with the huge mineral resources plundered from these countries?

France has been rejected in Africa, and Nigeria becoming a sudden bride overnight is questionable and suspicious. Tinubu is actually a laughingstock.

exactly! France has been in business with francophone Africa for over 60 years with no tangible benefit to the African region.
What exactly does Tinubu think France will provide Nigeria?
