baba like u didn't read through or do not know the real reason they are doing this.they can not be investing scarce Dollars on scholars most of who will never return back to the country after such program.its better they use same scarce resources to better our university infrastructure than wasting it on people.its same thing for those that Japa out of the country yet are still drawing salaries from the Nigeria.a country can not grow with such wasteful spending. As much as we are condemning political class wasting scarce resources we should also condemn those non political class wasting our resources
So who will run the better university infrastructure when you don't have better hands?
Sending scholars for foreign training is not a waste in my view. India did it and they have one of the best medical industry today. Many of your antimalarial are made in India.

So what should public fund be used for instead? Medical tourism and conferences?

It's good to send our scholars to western countries to train but those that has been sent we are not seeing the benefits. I happen to come from one of the organizations that sent its workers to overseas training but what we discovered was that most of these trainees never stay long in the country after coming back from the training, after two or three years they always japa, thereby all the money spent on them are wasted.
Maybe we don't see the benefits because we don't create a conducive environment for them to harness what they learned.
As for this that japa, they can always japada with their enormous skill and expertise once the local conditions improve.

This is a welcome development.

The money saved from these foreign trainings can be channeled into other critical areas and the local capacity will also improve over time.

Its a win-win for Nigeria.
the so-called savings from removal of petrol subsidy that we were told will be used to turn Nigeria to Eldorado, please, what has it been used for?

And this is the type of people I am sharing a country with. God, I didn't deserve this.

What money are they saving please? That was how una hype Tinubu when he fóolishly removed fuel subsidy. The money they told us he will saved , how much has been realized now? Some of you have eyes but deliberately want to be blind. Okay o
Don’t you know you can voluntarily decide not to be a Nigerian again ?

You only need to go to the immigration office and ask for renunciation form. It’s free me and easy. Thereafter you will be stateless.

I doubt you will be missed though.

So who is going to train the 20?
You need a healthy mix sir. Right now, most universities in the developed world are incorporating machine learning into their research curriculum while here in Nigeria, we're still battling with Matlab and SPSS.
Yet you think we shouldn't have more foreign training for our scholars
So what's the path to becoming industrialised?
Topic like this is always hard to comment on in the Nigeria context. I disagree with you if everything else remain equal and the Nigeria factor is not considered. Instead of spending hard earned foreign currency on sending people overseas. The same amount of money can be used to build local capacity and infrastructure to train more people and improve our institutions. You can have international training online without leaving the country. Advancement in technology have made it easier to train people long distance without incurring the cost of travel, estacode and hotel accommodation.
Since Nigeria have been sponsoring these scholars overseas, what has Nigeria benefited? What is the return on investment? It is time Nigeria start cutting it's coat according to the size of the cloth. Even if I agree with you that Nigeria needed these scholars, we just don't have the money for it any more.
Off course the benefit gained from cancelling the sponsorship will end up in someone's else pocket. Hence the challenges one face in taking a position in this type of discussion.

Has FG ban Nigerians from traveling? Are politicians not Nigerians?

Your Agulu fraud, has FG stop him from traveling?

...and you think you worth sharing nation with?

Have you for once asked urself,..

...of what benefits the people they sent abroad be for Nigeria as a nation?

Have you done the findings about how many of such scholars trained abroad came back to work and develop the country that spent money to train them overseas?

You people must dance like mad man in market Square just to go against govt at every post
Some do come back not all stay behind. One of my lecturer is a TETFUND product. There are ways they can make them come back or pay back the money. Cancelling it is wrong but we know as e dey go sha.

Those politicians spending public funds for their personal lives what benefits does it have to the nation?

I'm surprised Nigerian youths are not out there calling out this terrible minister.
How can a developing country whose education sector is suffering from so many manpower and technical challenges ban foreign training for its scholars?
Politicians can go junketing across the globe, wasting public funds on meaningless meetings and conferences but scholars shouldn't go for foreign trainings? Nigeria as a country does not have ANY journal ranked Q1 in engineering and physical sciences but we're banning scholars from accessing foreign trainings.
So Nigerian govt expects fulbright, commonwealth, USAID. Smithson and other such foreign institutions to sponsor our scholars but we are no longer going to sponsor them because according to this minister, it's a waste of funds.
The foremost agric tech company implementing GMO in nigeria us Kenyan and is staffed with Nigerian scholars they trained abroad!
How will the country develop when critical human resources are not developed? It seems this minister is worse than the former one.
The ones they have sent in the past, what has the nation and its citizens benefited from it?? If your write up your even said that Nigeria didn't have any journal ranked No. 1 in engineering and co. My question is those that were sent abroad in the past why didn't they achieve this feat for Nigeria??

What is a scholar, someone licensed to carry micro chips. Just cram something and vomit it back.

A brick layer is better than a scholar, scholars create nothing, they re parasites.

Do you know what is required to have a Q1 journal? Do you think it only has to do with intellect and willingness of scholars? How many universities in Nigeria have e-library and repository that's functional? Most of them run their repository on free hosting sites not secure

The govt has a responsibility to fund and sponsor education. It is so worldwide. You can't tell people to go fund themselves and still tell them how to "give back to the country". It makes zero sense

'do not think about what your country can do for you but for what you can do for your country'. For me sending someone to go and read economics or geography shows how serious I am about real growth in the educational sectors. Build schools capacity to offer world class education and see the revenue you will attract year in year out. Every year US earns over a million dollars in application fees and visa fees whether they admit or not. The Change we seek is painful but very beneficial
