osazsky:Google account Google has ALL your data. You CANNOT lie to Google. They just pretend like they don't have your data. But they do. Your wants, desires, expectations, thinking pattern, jokes pattern, secret midnight browsing history, voice pattern from your phone's microphone (always on)... You've been using free gmail since all these years, You never wondered why it was free? You are the product. They are using YOU as their spying product. |

trium:It all depends on how conversant you are with gadgets. Kids can have gadgets with parental control. In a world of today, you cannot deny them those gadgets. It makes learning faster and easier. Just get an iPad for them, connect it to your phone and you will be able to set what and what they can access. You can also add time to it. Even when registering the iPad with their age, Apple has its own parental control to keep them off what’s not. You want them to learn programming and have a grasp of the world from an early age, you have to get them in-tuned with their surroundings and that’s the web. With applications like Alexa, kids are ready to question their intuitions and learn about diverse subjects. |

Actually it is the entire social media they want to ban. They are gradually laying the foundation for that with deceptive move in the name of protecting children...... |

AllenSpencer:I'm very conversant and I agree with you on what they can learn but they must be supervised. A child's mind is not mature enough to deal with the dark side of the internet, trust me. A child is very curious and has time on their hands, they can override that control if they are determined to learn just as they can sneak a phone to use if you ban them. The porn craze we have today was not a seed that was sown today, the users grew up with it, learned it and think it's a way of life. Their minds are so messed up now that they need therapy to heal. Don't you remember how back then, just reading soft porn could make you have imaginations? Porn is the extreme example to use. See, adults have a conversation process kids can never understand until they pass through the ritual. There is research that shows that someone can lure your child wherever you are in the world just by having access to them. No matter how you teach kids, they need time to grow and we must not stop the process. That's why some words we use today can be so innocent to a child but adults know the hidden meaning. Education is different from entertainment. The tech guys don't give their kids phones, including the maids. You think they don't know what's up? A child will learn when it's time, under proper supervision and guidance. Nothing is running away. build a child the morals they need to navigate the system of life Kids are learning more from influencers today who we don't know what their speciality is, we don't know their backgrounds, we don't know much about them. That's why Gen Z is influenced by social media influencers and think life did not exist before the internet. That addiction is making them live the life dependent on technology instead of this universe. That's why I like how Bovi dissed them in his show that he doesn't need to advertise online to have a comedy show or do stupid dances to promote his show. Influence is a strong thing and we know how parents warned us about peer influence. Kids are heavily influenced online today and adults are not exempted, how much for kids? Streamers, gamers and different types of influence will make the child's mind wander from here to there. You can't beat the process and many of them have come to realise this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LrQfL99Jsw |

trium:The schools have same parental control I was talking about. If he does have one at home. He definitly will use his laptop in school. The world has changed. You cannot really keep this kids away from informations. How you manage it is what counts. |

Unfortunately, Nairaland is not classified as social media. I would propose for the same concerning this two-bit chat forum. |

AllenSpencer:School is a supervised environment. At home, even where there is supervision, unless a parent is very strict, they will be distracted and the kid will find their way. I'm sure you are an adult who has lived with kids. Put them in a room without anything, they will find a way to create something. It's when the worries of adulting takes over, they have less times for these things. They are naturally curious. I hope you are aware that kids can't read these days. You think just because they can use a device, they can read? No. It is impacting their writing too. Worse, AI wants to take their brain. They think it's a cool tool, they don't realise they are the tool's fool It's not about living in the world, it is controlling how we live in the world. |
| Re: Australia Bans Social Media For People Under 16 Years Old by AllenSpencer: 5:12pm On Nov 29, 2024 |
trium:Like I mentioned earlier, it all boils down to management. Schools don’t have the time to supervise over 300 laptops, all they do is use advanced softwares and systems to keep them at bay. |
| Re: Australia Bans Social Media For People Under 16 Years Old by trium: 5:14pm On Nov 29, 2024 |
AllenSpencer:Okay, tell me why the school is using the laptop in the first place and I will respond to you. Is it to write? To read? To speak? To research? |

meobizy: Online forums can be considered a type of social media that is more specialized and niche. Forums are online discussion sites where users can: create threads, post messages, respond to existing threads, share information, and exchange ideas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5DPUfFkta8 |

trium:In North America, Kids start having access to laptops from either grade 2 or 3, can’t remember factual, and they grow with it from there. |

AllenSpencer, I am not trying to prove you wrong or prove myself right. We just need to rethink what we are doing. There's no FOMO for kids. We need to understand the brain they have and let it grow before intercepting it with tech. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IcEbnRtpLfw |

AllenSpencer:I have done research on this topic from 2 angles: 1. Academia 2. Cybersecurity There are also child psychologists who have spoken on this. Experts in both fields have recommended limited use of these devices. They may not be popular now but they exist. Bill Gates wife has expressed how she controls tech. Mark Zuckerberg does not allow smart phones for his kids and their maids. Like, what will make him sack his housemaid for using a smartphone when caring for his child? Let kids be kids and learn the art of life. If they fail to learn the basics and skip it for 'advancement', they will get old and hopefully, learn late. When they get to that stage, they will understand why life is turn by turn. They are not losing out on anything. The world will continue changing and with a solid foundation, you will meet it where and when it's best for you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=He3IJJhFy-I

trium:The environment is already intercepting it and the already curious. You use google maps in front of them, turn on appliances with voice control, they work with it in school-have user Id and passwords. Tell me, what else do you want o intercept when they already have a basic idea of what the WEB can do. You cannot just hide it from them. They can pretend they don’t know but they know the powers of the internet. They have friends in schools who tell them about it. Do we also not buy them computer games? They can surf the web from those Xbox and PlayStations too. |
