Gov Ododo Expresses Sympathy Following Deadly Kogi Boat Accident by RealGandalf(op): 7:31am On Nov 30, 2024
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has extended heartfelt condolences to the families of victims affected by the recent tragic boat accident on the River Niger, which claimed numerous lives. The mishap involved traders traveling from Kogi State to the Katcha weekly market in Niger State.

In a statement issued by Hon. Ismaila Isah, the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, Ododo described the accident as a “heartbreaking and unfortunate tragedy.” He visited the accident site to offer solidarity and support to the grieving families and those affected.

Many of the victims were women, petty traders, and artisans, engaged in lawful economic activities to sustain their families and contribute to the state’s economy.

Governor Ododo emphasized the urgency of addressing safety concerns on the waterways connecting Kogi and Niger States, which have been marred by recurring accidents. He urged authorities to intensify efforts to implement safety regulations and minimize risks associated with water transportation in the region.

The Governor commended the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) for its swift response and ongoing search and rescue operations. He called for stronger inter-agency collaboration to enhance safety standards, prevent future incidents, and improve emergency response mechanisms on Nigeria’s waterways.

Expressing a commitment to those affected, Governor Ododo pledged government support for injured victims as they recover. “This tragedy underscores the urgent need for improved safety measures and infrastructural attention on our waterways,” he remarked.

The incident, which occurred near the Dambo-Ebuchi section of the river, has drawn attention to the precarious conditions of water travel in the region, renewing calls for more robust oversight and intervention to safeguard lives and livelihoods.

RIP to the dead in the boat but no RIP for anyone of them who is an ardent tribalist. May all tribalist rot in the dungeon for all I care.

Now I have been ordained as the CEO of FLOGTRIBALISTS aka Chief Executor of Tribalists. If you talk nonsense against other tribes and we catch you, you will be tormented in our correctional centre's until your late ancestors beg for your freedom. Just talk anyhow and see.

Nigeria shall be great again
Re: Gov Ododo Expresses Sympathy Following Deadly Kogi Boat Accident by jakD(m):

May their souls rest in peace.

By the way, most Nigerians are beautifully foolish and responsible for their own disasters.
Go to Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Akwa Ibom waterways, you'll beg and force boat passengers to wear life jackets, some will get mad at you and some will ignore you as if it's not for their own safety.

September 2024, I boarded a boat in Lagos, a woman there kept her life jacket beside her as if that was the purpose, I begged her to wear it persuading her that it was for her safety. This woman reluctantly took the life jacket and hung it on her neck and that was all! She didn't tie or fasten the hook. I had to leave her alone.

Most Nigerians in moving vehicles will use seat belts only when they see FRSC officials on the road, as if they're doing it not for their own safety.

God bless Nigeria 🇳🇬.
