House Of Reps Postpones Debate On Tax Reform Bills Indefinitely by NLCreator666(op): 10:17pm On Nov 30, 2024
The House of Representatives has postponed debates on the controversial tax reform bills indefinitely.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the four bills, which were transmitted to both chambers of the National Assembly by President Bola Tinubu on September 3 have generated controversy and met with stiff opposition.

The bills are the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024, the Tax Administration Bill, the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill and the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill.

The critics of the bills included the Northern Governors Forum, Traditional Rulers Council, National Economic Council, Northern Elders Forum, among others.

While the National Economic Council, comprising the vice president and governors, advised the president to withdraw the bills and allow further consultations, the governors alleged that some clauses in the bill are detrimental to the region.

Despite the opposition, the four bills scaled second reading in the Senate.
However, the passage of the bills was halted at the House of Representatives due to heated debate and confrontations by the lawmakers.

The lawmakers across party lines reportedly rejected attempts by the leadership of the House to persuade them from passing the bill.

The resistance by lawmakers forced the House to adjourn till December 3 to allow broader consultations with Taiwo Oyedele, chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, to clarify contentious aspects of the bills.

But an internal memo dated November 30, sighted by our correspondent and signed by the clerk of the House Representatives, Yahaya Danzaria, said the special session has been postponed to a later date.

The memo, which was titled “Rescheduling of Special Session on Tax Reform Bills and dated November 30, reads,”I am directed by the House leadership to inform all Honourable Members that the Special Session, initially scheduled for Tuesday, 3rd December, 2024, to discuss all the Tax Reform Bills, has been postponed to a later date.

“This rescheduling is due to the need for further and broader consultations with all relevant stakeholders.

“A new date and venue for the session will be communicated in due course. We regret any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding”.

I have written severally here on how the SE have undermined Southern interest since 1999 by always supporting the north over any bill proposal that calls for equitable distribution of resources to states especially as it concerns oil revenue.

They stood with the north to stand down 25% of oil revenue to oil producing states that was proposed by the Obasanjo government. It took the intervention of Yaradua to negotiate a 13,% derivative to oil producing states.

They stood with the north against coastal oil producing states of the SS from benefiting from offshore wells. It took a Supreme court ruling to compel the FG to pay proceeds from offshore oil and gas wells to SS coastal states.

They stood with the north to water down and make useless the Petroleum Industry Bill.

Now they are siding with same north to ensure this tax reform bill is killed so that they can continue reaping from where they did not sow.

Nigeria isn't working, can we all divide peacefully and go our separate ways?

As a man, no dey give women your money again. Spend that money and invest on yourself instead. Buy those clothes, shoes and look neat and smart! Stop spending your money and resources on a girl. Understand that no matter what you do for her, it'll never be enough and she'll dump you immediately she sees a man who's richer than you. If you confront her, she'll ask you what have you done for me? Did I force you to do any of that for me? So why then would you be stupid on spending on a woman instead of investing in yourself? If you're looking for women to spend on, spend on your sister and mother!

Why are some northern elites and political leaders against this tax reform bill?
A bill that sought to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of revenue generation and it's agencies, ensure proper utilization and equitable distribution of revenues accrued and strengthen it's management processes.

You don't want to allow the commercial sales of some certain legal products (alcohol, condoms, etc) in your region but yet want to reap from its proceeds generated else where?

You want to continue reaping from where you did not sow (sharing from other regions resources and tax contributions) and continue to keep the revenue you generate (through gold mining, agricultural products, etc) in your region to your region alone.

I was telling one zombie this morning who was advertising his ignorance that the house was yet to even consider the bill for first reading. The Mugu clearly did not realise Nigeria has two Houses who must concur to bills before they can be sent to the president.
The north are not playing right now
They always get what they want especially with a docile, selfish and divided south

What is this?
I don't know the kind demon that created you people for that side.
What did the south East do to you people?
The right up clearly stated the various groups opposed to the bill and no where was south East mentioned.
The south East have always been know to stand for fairness.
Imagine you demons that moved all the headquarters of the oil companies to Lagos and dominated the oil industry while denying those who oil is found in their land their rights.
You devils that sided with the North to rubbish a southern president just because he is not from your tribe.
A yoruba man Obasanjo was the one that introduced the onshore and offshore dichotomy before Gov Victor Atta and co went to court and won.
Why do you demonic creatures like re writing history
And let me tell you,if the so called tax bill is to replicate the criminal alpha beta heist that is ongoing in Lagos,it will fall.
Re: House Of Reps Postpones Debate On Tax Reform Bills Indefinitely by koxyz: 4:13am On Dec 01, 2024
The major problem the north has with the reform bills is the derivation principle embedded in it. At least it will reduce this issue of monkey dey work baboon dey chop to some extent.

We should all brace up for a just system which promote equality if we want things to improve.

This northern parts of Nigeria is just a pain in the ass of Southern Nigeria

They're leeches, liabilities to SS and SW

Imagine, the beer parts

Kano, northern states are busy destroying alcohol worth billions of Naira in their state but keep enjoying the VAT that comes from it, imagine 😂.

The Southern politicians should sit up and come up with a solution on how we can separate from the North. 100years of almagamation is over so a court of law can as well dissolve this parasitic union, cos there is no document or law holding us together anymore.

Nnamdi Azikiwe stood with the north against the secession clause proposed by Awolowo that would allow any part of the country that want to go on its own to go. In fact, Azikiwe made it a treasonable offense that you say you want to break away. That's what has played against Igbos so far in the country. What of that one?

Did you just wake up in 2024?

It is on record that Tinubu, a southerner, the Yoruba tribe, along with their allies, undermined southern unity and interests. He, together with his allies, was at the forefront, going as far as funding, sponsoring, and organizing civil disobedience and protests against the Goodluck Jonathan government, the only time an Ijaw man from the South-South became president. He and his 'Janjawiid' party even issued threats of forming a parallel government, a treasonable offense.

You don't have to come here to twist the facts, tell outright lies, and spread falsehoods about the Igbos just to serve your jaundiced imagination. The Igbos are not responsible for your frustrations and anger. Channel your frustrations and anger appropriately towards Tinubu, whose bolekaja economic policies have ensured that you remain frustrated and angry.
