They are just bluffing... However, the unity of Nigeria is in the hands of the Yoruba; the very second they unitedly say they don't want anymore, it would be game over. Why Tinubu is secured in 2027 (if you like vote or not). |

interesting. With so many exceptions, I wonder how the Government is supposed to raise money to run the country. I haven't read the entire bill yet, but seeing the progressive defund of TETFUND and the progressive funding of Student Loan sounds nice. Although, I suspect this would come with further increases in cost of education. Unless, the projects handled by TETFUND are near completion. https://proshare.co/articles/president-tinubus-tax-reform-bills-under-a-microscope?menu=Economy&classification=Read&category=Taxes%20%26%20Tariffs |

How many people truly died of covid not withstanding our jam-packed public places compared to western world? The post made mention of rejection of polio vaccine which is the cause high number of crippled people in the North. You see the correlation? |

Foolish people will be sentimental, and picky about what to implement or not! As the North kicks against the tax reform Bill, so also the SW kicks against any plans to revamp other seaport projects except those in Lagos! Until both lregion largely filled with illiterates and un-educated adults see reason that development is complimentary.... let them kee themselves for all I care! Yoruba no want sea ports in other region because of its effect on Lagos Port Monopoly, but wants the North to accept tax reforms that disadvanytage them! North doesn't want tax reform because of feeding bottle Monopoly on Federal allocation & will to do as they like.... What a region, what a people! Tufiakwaa! |

DomPerignon:I am not even sure why any Southern or Middle belt politician will rally against this bold move. I can see why Northern ones will scream and shout over it as their party is about to abruptly come to an end. It will be tough and there must be a lot of political give and take before it hopefully goes through. It might even cost President Tinubu at the next elections sef. Once it does though, the next step MUST be revocation of "oil blocks" especially those that Abacha and IBB were giving to people like Danjuma. Sadly we have greedy Southern representatives on Abuja who will help scupper it fir their personal gain. Hopefully the electorate would wake up and start fighting back. I love your quip about dividing zero too. |

Bigkoko:How will Ndi Yoruba not want Seaports in other places? With respect your assertion is ridiculous. What power do they even have to kick against it sef? Remember, this is the first ever Pro Ndi Yoruba federal regime (whatever that means sef). All the previous ones, including OBj's, have had Ndi Yoruba on the sidelines so why didn't they implement it? In Edo state, Godwin attempted Gelegele seaport, it failed and we know why. Delta have had their own attempt as has Rivers. I am sure I have also heard of a dry port in some other state. Lagosians cannot wait for the port at Tin Can Island to shed a lot of it's heavy load as it causes all sorts of issues. Let NPA and state governments come together to build at least two more seaports, Ndi Yoruba cannot do anything about it. There is simply no will by those other governments, it is nothing to do with Ndi Yoruba. Having said that, I would like to see your proof sha if you have any. |

G0Oodharddick:You no dey follow latest news if not you will know why the north is angry. First it was the LG autonomy , though many southerners also protested , the effect is mainly felt in the north . Then the tax bill which will redistribute VAT and reward hard working governors and punish lazy ones The Supreme Court also freed the FG from lottery regulations meant less money to be shared means less money to parasitic states mostly from the north. Guy, PBAT has been dealing with the north and this bill will pass and they won't make any noise except the usual noise from the red cap man in kano and Meigida in Adamawa abi na Dubai cos we don't really know where he lives these days |

The tax bill is not entirely bad. It should be properly debated, if need be, sent to all state houses of assemblies for input. Aside from some areas I feel needs reviews, my main grouses are: 1. It is not far reaching enough when it comes to natural resource control. States whose main revenue base are natural resources still have thier resources controlled by the central government. It is not proper for a company whose main revenue is located in Rivers state to have its HQ in Abuja or Lagos and be paying a significant amount of its taxes there simply because it has a building there. 2. It does not introduce checks on corrupt people. Tax remittance is the easiest way to catch thieves. There must be a link from income to -assests- to tax. Let's take for instance BAT... what business did he have that he was able to buy private jets? What is his income and how much does he remit as tax? If the jets are registered as business owned, then what businesses are those? What is thier annual income and how much tax do they pay? This should go for all our so called rich men, even those with legitimate incomes. A musician buys cars worth N2bn at once. There is a need to check his income-assests-tax link. Doing this would seriously reduce the excessive display of wealth which is one of the reasons for corruption as people want to feel among at all cost. 3. The tax bill is yet to show the real positive impact on the masses. It is good that those earning less than N1m per annum would pay no income taxes, but the government is increasing vat. So how does that help? Giving with one hand and taking with another. |
