jmoore:Why is new iPhone same price in Nigeria and Atlanta? Why is crude oil same price in Nigeria and Atlanta? The reason why petrol is lesser/higher in most countries is simply because the government subsidize it or tax it. If you remove taxes and subsidy, petrol will sell averagely same price in most countries with +-10% margin. |

The Op is silly Kperoogi raised two issues. Fuel price and minimum wage. Op took only fuel price and then started writing rubbish about minimum wage. Note that Kperoogi clearly said no one earns minimum wage in Atlanta and he gave an example of his daughter doing a menial low- end job and earning $13 per hrs. Meanwhile a lot of low end earners in Nigeria do not earn the present minimum wage even till now!! Kperoogi is correct about the fuel price. Nigeria imports fuel that's far lower in quality than that of the US and the price is still almost the same with US but the foolish Op wants to defend that by using Dangote. Who has confirmed Dangote’s claim of fuel quality. How much fuel has Dangote supplied to the Nigerian market? He hasn't even taken his petrol anywhere outside Nigeria. Meanwhile the diesel he produces is not up to US standard and he had to own up to it later. So if he lied about his diesel quality, what's to say he's not lying about fuel as well? |

GeneralPulal:Do we get tax cuts and tax rebates like they do in Atlanta? Kperoogi pointed out that state govts in the US subsidise fuel price. He gave an example of same Atlanta where the Gov gave tax rebates to cushion fuel price. When has that ever happened in Nigeria? They get access to mortgages and food stamp and child credit in Atlanta like in most other states. Do you get that in Nigeria. Food is cheap in the US. You spend less than 10% of your income on food. In Nigeria, food takes more than 60% of average income earner's pay. |

You all have to understand that if some people do not come to counter the facts with bogus information/ logic they will be just as hungry and any other Nigerian. I bought fuel from Sam's club for $2.30 last month and it might be cheaper tomorrow,Nigeria is an aberration and those who benefit want to like that. Turning this away from a Nigeria must fix situation just shows who the problem are and not what the situation is.

Kukutente23:What do you mean by tax cut? Do you mean on property taxes or normal income tax? The property tax a year here is enough to build a full house in Nigeria. The only thing you get is homestead exemption and to qualify for that, you need to satisfy some requirement which over 95% of the population won’t merit. Kperogi should tell us what exactly he mean by tax cut. Kperoogi pointed out that state govts in the US subsidise fuel price. He gave an example of same Atlanta where the Gov gave tax rebates to cushion fuel price.Cushion fuel price when? He only suspended gas tax for a while which already ended since 2023. It’s a 31.2cent per gallon taxes. That is not what is called subsidy that Nigeria does. Nigeria for example will also charge zero VAT on petrol with the new tax reform. When has that ever happened in Nigeria?Access to mortgage? Is mortgage free? Won’t you also do down payments? Except for most military that have 0% down payment or some lender promotion for first time home buyers with less down payment %, you’ll still need to put some $$ down and closing cost. Most of the mortgage are privately company financed owned so I don’t know what you’re saying. Nigeria also have their own mortgage financing even tho FG haven’t been able to extend it to most Nigerians yet. We need the private institution to spearhead it, government can only do little. Do you get that in Nigeria. Food is cheap in the US. You spend less than 10% of your income on food. In Nigeria, food takes more than 60% of average income earner's pay.I agree there is food inflation in Nigeria when you factor in average percentage o people spend on food relative to their earnings. No one is shying away from that not even the FG. But Kperogi coming online to create a topic that “Petrol is expensive in Nigeria than Atlanta” is a big lie. Even the lowest grade petrol in Atlanta is still less expensive that Dangote fuel. |

sultaan:How much subscription do you pay yearly for Sam’s club membership? Hope you will also tell Nigerians that? Or you think anyone can just walk to Sam’s club gas station to purchase their fuel without subscription. Also mind you, that $2.30 is the lowest grade and Sam’s club are subsidizing it for their own subscribers. The same thing Costco does. |

| Re: Evidence That Fuel Is Actually Cheaper In Nigeria Than Atlanta – A Re To Kperogi by LegendHero(op): 1:05am On Dec 01, 2024 |
bdon123:I know because I am smarter. Dangote has consistently stated that their fuel is Euro V compliant, and this claim has not been disputed yet. Most European countries compliant with Euro V usually run average 95 research octane rating. So that means Dangote fuel will be >= 95 RON. So if you convert that to USA standard Octane rating, it’s over 91 octane number which falls in premium petrol spectrum.

Yeah, the minimum wage in Nigeria is way lower than in the US, but you also gotta remember that the cost of living is a lot cheaper here. Dangote said his fuel is premium, but he didn't say what octane level it is. If it's true that it's premium, then it's probably more expensive because it has a higher octane rating. But here's the thing, we don't really need premium fuel in Nigeria. Most cars can run just fine on regular fuel. So, instead of focusing on producing premium fuel, we should focus on making fuel more affordable for everyone. |

LegendHero:This is a great idea. If you are not driving a high end car you don't need premium fuel. Perhaps this is something the government can look into. Selling different grades can go a long way in solving some of the pricing issues. |

| Re: Evidence That Fuel Is Actually Cheaper In Nigeria Than Atlanta – A Re To Kperogi by Kukutente23: 6:35am On Dec 01, 2024 |
LegendHero:Just last month, Gov Kemp announced a tax rebate that he claims will save citizens over $1bn. Not only that same October, there was another tax rebates proposal per family which gave $250 to single fillers, $375 per family headed by a single and $500 per married couple. That's N805k you get for being married in Georgia. These two rebates I mentioned when fully implemented will cost the state $6.6bn. Note that these refunds are being given because state revenue rose. Now let's bring it home. Nigeria's tax income has been rising since the Buhari era and even got a leap since Tinubu came to power. With all the hunger in the land, when have you heard anything like tax refund. Instead it's how to tax the people more they are planning. Cushion fuel price when? He only suspended gas tax for a while which already ended since 2023. It’s a 31.2cent per gallon taxes. That is not what is called subsidy that Nigeria does.Nigeria charges tax on fuel. Multiple taxes actually. Making it sound as if the people in Nigeria are better off in terms of fuel price compared to the US is plain dishonest. If you're sure that's the case kindly jump on the next flight and come live under your darling Tinubu. You cannot hide in the US and be pontificating for us here. Access to mortgage? Is mortgage free? Won’t you also do down payments? Except for most military that have 0% down payment or some lender promotion for first time home buyers with less down payment %, you’ll still need to put some $$ down and closing cost. Most of the mortgage are privately company financed owned so I don’t know what you’re saying.I guess in Nigeria's almost non- existent mortgage system, there's no down payment. Why don't you visit FHA webpage and see the requirements for yourself. How many people can afford it? Your FG is not shying away but what are they doing about food inflation? Just offering platitudes about turning the corner. Even the import duty exemption they announced was not implemented. Bread is beyond the reach of the poor and most of the locally made bread are not even if good quality or healthy. I doubt anyone will dare to sell such bread in Atlanta In September 2024, two moths ago, Petrol price for regular gasoline was $2.97 per gallon so Kperoogi is not lying. All this your claim on Dangote is a big fat lie. That's how he claimed his diesel was Europe standard only to backtrack later on. There's nothing Dangote cannot say to get an advantage. He knows NMDPRA does not have testing facilities. Moreover, most of the fuel in Nigeria is still imported and not from Dangote and Nigeria imports the cheapest fuel quality. That's a known fact. So quit your BS |
| Re: Evidence That Fuel Is Actually Cheaper In Nigeria Than Atlanta – A Re To Kperogi by Kukutente23: 6:46am On Dec 01, 2024 |
LegendHero:Who uses premium fuel in Nigeria? Stop all this BS. Just August, it emerged that most fuel used in Nigeria was imported from Malta in a blending plant there. Does that sound like high quality fuel to you? Fuel being imported to Nigeria is regular fuel. That's being known since. In October, Nigeria's fuel regulator NMDPRA significantly improved its gasoline fuel quality standard, from 150 parts per million (ppm) of sulfur content to 50 ppm. It has gradually been reducing its sulfur cap from levels that were once over 1,000 ppm as part of a drive by the Economic Community of West African Countries (ECOWAS) to raise standards and reduce health risks. Whereas in the US, what you have for standard petrol is 10ppm |

LegendHero:The low IQ in the country is too much Who told you Dangote is selling premium? Dangote is selling standard petrol and he is not even able to sell enough because Oando/NNPC are bringing in Ethanol blended dirty Petrol which account for over 90 percent of the sale of Petro in Nigeria ....you are being sold low quality ethanol flex fuel for the price of Americans standard Petro |
| Re: Evidence That Fuel Is Actually Cheaper In Nigeria Than Atlanta – A Re To Kperogi by LegendHero(op): 7:09am On Dec 01, 2024 |
Kukutente23:We are saying the same thing. The imported fuel are not premium fuel, I never said that. What I am talking about is Dangote refinery PMS. It is Euro V standard and it is Premium. It is different from what we import from Malta. My argument is that Dangote should give Nigerians the options of buying different grade which include regular and premium. The FG need to mandate gas stations to have multiple options for consumers to choose. In October, Nigeria's fuel regulator NMDPRA significantly improved its gasoline fuel quality standard, from 150 parts per million (ppm) of sulfur content to 50 ppm. It has gradually been reducing its sulfur cap from levels that were once over 1,000 ppm as part of a drive by the Economic Community of West African Countries (ECOWAS) to raise standards and reduce health risks.I don’t know why you are typing this one. I am talking about Dangote refined fuel and not imported fuel. All this copy and paste is for the imported fuel. Whereas in the US, what you have for standard petrol is 10ppm |
