As for me as an Igbo man and Obi supporter, I personally don't like Tulumbu's government one bit, but I'm beginning to actually like T-pain as a person. It seems Tinubu is so far the only Southern leader who has the balls to stick a finger up to the Northern hegemony without fear or favor. For long the North have been allowed to get away with a lot of things in this country and our useless and cowardly Southern leaders would always suck up to their nonsense all in the name of currying Northern interest for political experiency. I doubt even Obi would have the heart to take and implement some tough national decisions and measures that Tinubu is taking right now. Nigeria must move on with or without the North, it's time for every subnational and state government have complete accountability for the running of its respective state's, it's time for state governors and legislators to actually stop being lazy by always depending on FAAC allocations from Abuja (which majority end up stealing without any evidential inputs and audits on how these monies are spent for the well being of the people). It's time for certain states to stop leeching off on taxes generated from other productive states while they bring nothing to the national coffers of the nation, if this tax reform bill will force some useless governors, LG chairmen, and house of assembly legislators in the South East to sit up and start working knowing that there will be more visibility and consequences for their actions from the people since the excuse of "not getting enough allocation from Abuja" will no longer fly, then I think it's only smart for every logical thinking Igbo person to support the bill to be passed, and I hope our SE reps don't slack on this one. Local Government autonomy, tax reform bills and the only thing left for Tpain to implement is state police creation and we might just be heading towards restructuring and fiscal federalism for the first time since regional government. |

The new tax reform is not only for the South East but for all Nigerians. The message is clear, the new tax reform is a wake up call for the state governors, legislators and the LG chairmen to start working smartly as they can no longer depend on FAAC alone |

Salewa97:I absolutely agree, only an enemy of true federalism or politicians with no truthful agendas will be opposed to that bill. |

Some lunatics think the bill will make SE poorer, these people still don’t understand how the average igbo man thinks..igbos careless whatever the bill entails,Being at the receiving end is not new to igbos! Igbos have nothing to gain in Nigeria, rather, they have everything to loose in Nigeria. They should also reform the oil and gas bill to allow states to generate and manage their resources…if it’s not working let’s go out separate ways! |
| Re: My Honest Opinion On The Tax Reform Bill As A Igbo Boy by Objectivist04: 10:35pm On Dec 01, 2024 |
My question about this tax reform which nobody has answered is " is it true that taxes will be collected from the states of consumption and remitted to the state where the business is headquartered ? Eg , if I recharge my Gotv , the vat will go to Lagos which hosts the company headquarter instead of Enugu where I base ? |

There’s no way Obi would have had the courage to handle this even if he ever thought of tax reforms. It did not show up in his manifesto or any of his campaign speeches |

The bill should encourage local priduction and help all states see the entire ecowas as their market. The more is produced under you, the more you get. Instead they want to enforce state equality. Maybe we should achieve regional and zonal equality before thinking of such. If they share VAT by consumption volume, what happens to extra produce that goes into other ECOWAS states? |

Objectivist04:This was what it was before. I listened to the reform committee chairperson. What the new tax reform is proposing is that if mtn generates 5billion in Enugu through their subscribers, they should pay the tax to Enugu and not take it to the headquarters like it is been done. It is then Enugu that will then take it to the federation account from which 60% will go the state that generates the revenue, 20% will go to the state based on population and the remain 20% will be shared based on equality |

Hmmm. I dont like Tinubu's government one bit but I like T-pain as a person. This is a classic example of someone who is not a hypocrite. He is not pretending to like Tinubu's government. He is only supporting the reforms and progressive agenda of T-pain. May God bless Nigeria for ever! |

Telling millions of struggling igbo traders that they have to show a tax ID before opening a bank account is evil. Tax is essential for a country to grow. But when we have a government rooted in nepotism, a government that concentrates its work on some favoured sections of the country against others, paying taxes to such government becomes a foolish act. You concentrate the activities of the bank of Industries in the south west. You take all the juicy positions in government, in civil service, military and co, then when the igbo graduate that couldn't get a job in any agency finally sells his father's land to start a petty business, you show up for tax! That is after you might have mocked him for his "2 by 2 shop". Thunder fire you dia |

Objectivist04:No that is how the present VAT system works. The new bill will change it so that the VAT will go to Enugu state. |
| Re: My Honest Opinion On The Tax Reform Bill As A Igbo Boy by casualobserver: 12:13am On Dec 02, 2024 |
Benbellamor:. I saw a post of the NE development commission budget 95% of their budget is salaries. That’s what they do with the taxes and FAAC they collect. No budget for projects.

Objectivist04:For the new tax reform, the VAT will now go to Enugu where you base because that is the places where the govt will be consumed. |

Oganigwe:I am also impressed. All of the Southern states have been really supportive. That is nice even if it’s for this one time. I don’t think Tinubu care about re-election much. But he should make sure he complete everything. State police is a must and some restructuring should take place before 2027. I think allocation to oil producing states should go up to 30%, FAAC dependency has made our states poorer because it stiffen real growth. $5k you work for is better than $5k you got for free. Thats exactly why money don’t last long in yahoo boy’s hand on average compared to those that work hard to earn it. If the new tax bill pass and you make the derivation 60% based on the actual consumption in those states, nobody will reach a governor to add value to goods, bring in more private guys that can boost their state productivity and hustle. |

Oganigwe:nothing good will even come out of Tinubu unless you intentionally want to be deceived and disappointed. I have followed the man for more than twenty years now from his governorship days and even met him in person. Everything about him is fraud. Nothing real or good will ever come out of him |
| Re: My Honest Opinion On The Tax Reform Bill As A Igbo Boy by Odotech: 4:36am On Dec 02, 2024 |
Objectivist04:The present tax law forces companies to pay taxes where their headquarter is. That's why oil companies pay tax to Lagos govt not delta or bayelsa where exploration happens. Telecom companies pay tax to Lagos not any other state where call is made. Unconfirmed rumour seems to suggest tracking of origin state is figured into this new bill for tax purposes. But again, the northern governors are crying for that to be done. We are therefore unsure what really is in the bill. You know tinubu and propaganda - a man who promised 70k minimum wage in the media but paid 20k to 30k minimum wage to the bank account of federal workers cannot be totally trusted |
| Re: My Honest Opinion On The Tax Reform Bill As A Igbo Boy by Bobloco: 4:49am On Dec 02, 2024 |
LegendHero:The new tax bill also proposes an increase in the VAT from 7.5% to 10% in 2025, by 2030 it goes as high as 15% which will invariably increase the cost of goods and services on which VAT will be charged. And, of course, you and I know all too well that this cost will be passed down to the final consumer. |

I think Tinubu is a fearless leader But Nigeria is a corrupt country and in a corrupt country, things work backwards... Don't forget that the North controls at least 50% of our military... I just have feeling that something will f**k up the tax bill. If not coup then something else. |

NaMe4:Not for savings account. Petty traders use such accounts to start off life. Tell Tinubu to back off. Every single policy since he came in has been to add more impediments on the paths of struggling traders. And that is starting to look like its deliberate. There are no set of people that have witnessed more attacks under this regime, than the traders. The dollar madness has basically crippled their abilities to source for foreign goods that can not be produced here. Many of them basically don't import anything anymore. Then you add the fuel subsidy removal, which has increased the cost of transporting goods from one location to the other. Check the cost of transporting a 40ft container from Lagos to Aba today. Compare it with what we had under Jonathan. He should back off ahbegi. He's squeezing the life out of hardworking traders. At this rate, it's starting to look like he wants all of them to become agberos. |

Oganigwe:Don't be naive. This is a 700 page document that ought to be published for all Nigerians to go tru. You are commenting on one aspect. Do you know other aspect. Other hidden clause. Don't trust tinubu. Remember he is same person who protested against subsidy removal only to remove subsidy. He is same person who shouted restructuring for 16 years but today is finding it difficult to do restructuring |

Objectivist04:What you said is exactly what is happening right now. Right now VAT is remitted to the state that hosts the headquarters of the company. The tax reform bill seeks to change the system so that the tax will go to the place where the good or service is actually consumed. naptu2: |

Objectivist04:It's the other way round. It is like this, assume you're the only in the whole Enugu that recharged his GOtv, Enugu only one tax benefit because of you. The era of of order states with zero GOtv subscription benefiting will be gone. For example, the North campaigns against and raids betting shops meanwhile southern youth are neck deep in debt and some even taking their own life due to loss. Do you see it normal that the north takes in more tax than the South that aspect? |
