How wont the bill favor South East?
Tell me how it will favour SE when the VAT ogun state alone generates is more that the IGR of each state in the SE.
You know how many Igbo owned businesses that are operating outside the region?
And how many do we have in the region that will generate enough VAT?

You guys don't sit down to calculate things well.

Right now VAT is charged at source with this bill it would be charged where it's consumed not where it's produce

IMO has a GDP twice Ogun so it has more economic consumption activities so would get more VAT

cheesy

Most Northern governors are opposed to this new tax regime because it means in essence that they would have to impose taxes on their population that does not pay much in tax....which means they lose power.

It's that simple.
No Tinubu has rather proven to be an hasty clueless failure for a President 😁
Aside Apc zombies, people already know that Nigeria is all about the Elections to him, zero plan to deliver good governance.

Zero Trust for T-pain. He has proven without doubt to be a colossal failure and disaster.

Zombie, that knee-jerk reaction again?
Yorubanization? We don't want it and that's why I speak against the Yoruba culture appropriation yall are fond of.

Yorubanization of Nigeria will still fail! It's just a matter of time.

Salewa97:
The Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has clarified his position on the controversial tax reform bills, saying he was not an enemy of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Zulum, however, insisted that if the four tax bills currently undergoing review before the Green Chamber are passed into law, only one of the 36 states – Lagos – will be the major beneficiary.

The governor made the clarification when he was featured as a guest on Sunday’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today.

He said, “I am a strong member of the APC. If you are to count two governors who have been in support of Tinubu from 2019 to 2023, you can mention Prof Zulum. I was the first governor to come out publicly to say that power must go to the South.

“Unfortunately, the President was told by many that the North is against him. About 60.2 per cent of his votes came from the North. There are a lot of misconceptions about this tax issue. During the NEC, we advised the Federal Government to pause for a moment to have a deeper consultation with stakeholders. That was our own statement.

“But later on, people have turned it upside down. I want you to believe that our consultation is central to democracy, and in a democratic setting, we are begging for the right to be consulted. This is only what has happened.”

In the past few weeks, the controversial bills have pitched the 36 state governors against the Federal Government, with the former calling for the withdrawal of the bills to create room for more consultation.

But Zulum had called on his colleagues and Northern stakeholders to reject the bills, insisting that the bills would damage the region’s economy if implemented.

Similarly, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called for transparency and fairness in the ongoing review of
There is nothing wrong with having dissenting voices on any matter....that's why it's a democracy,Zulum has the right to bare his mind.

BoldBrainz:
I detest this back and forth over this tax reform issue.

Thanks to Tinubu's highly lopsided appointments and the toxic approach of his overzealous supporters, our political atmosphere has been reduced to a pathetic state where all issues are now treated from the prism of "Lagos versus the rest of Nigeria".

It will amount to eternal folly for anyone to believe that the Lamentations of the Northern elites is in the interest of their impoverished masses.

Past and present Northern leaders have succeeded in laying waste to their states (with the exceptions of Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa and Niger states), simply because they've grown used to the tradition of sharing monthly Federal allocations accumulated from the economic activities of other regions, while they illegally mine Northern resources to enrich themselves and their religious clerics who help to whip the masses in line with hypnotic doctrines.

Now they realize that this initiative is about to kick-start an era where you mostly earn according to the viable economic activities of your individual state, they're uncomfortable enough to be granting endless press statements.

This should be a development embraced by all, as it paves way for every state Governor to buckle up, initiate policies which will enable business and economic activities so you can enjoy the bulk of the taxes commensurate to your productivity rate. But no, they want to keep enjoying the benefits of other people's sweat.

I'll hate Tinubu even more if he bucks and backtracks on this tax reform initiative. The Northern elites kicking against this are all very stupid! Such an abhorrent crowd of parasitic leeches!

I keep saying it that Yoruba are the only reason Nigeria is still together. We allow people to be lazy and depend on our money. Now they don't want the goose that lays the golden egg to take a break and regain strength. So what will Yoruba response be? I trust president Tinubu to not take a no for an answer, this is the kind of thing people go to war for and I trust him to stand firm.

Anyway, I'm just happy how Igbos are not even taking sides in all these rubbish. Let the brothers settle their beef.
Don't worry they would settle and the Igbos will be asked where that stand when the 2 brothers resolve their matter.....if they do have a stand, they would be considered critical to the Nigeria project but if they don't they would be considered irrelevant and if no use to anyone.

They couldn't even make their candidate come 2nd and are busy claiming their mandate was stolen.

For a very long time, lagos has been cornering everything that should go to the rest of the country. They have hyjacked most federal properties in Lagos, including the former state House marina. Nigeria can not grow without solving the Lagos problem once and for all. Maybe this tax bill is a blessing in disguise for the country

How do you know that southerners have been heavily taxed for decades without seeing T-Pain's tax returns since 1999 and since last year, showing he is richer than one state with bullion vans delivering money to his house?

Is it you who has no clue what you are talking about, or T-Pain also has no clue what hypocrisy means in this tax reform debate huh

Juxtapose the underlined sentence and his stance, you'd agree with me that this Prof. is a confusionist.

Lagos will be the only beneficiary and Lagos will lose a lot.

Lagos will lose because VAT will now be charged at the place of consumption, and not the place of production. If you aren't allowing people to drink beer and play lotto, forget about VAT from these 'Haram'

Anything to remove over concentration to Lagos is highly welcome by me. Yorubas has used Lagos to intimidate other tribes for long. Enough of all this nonesense. Lagos this Lagos that. Rubbish. Even if aboki is contributing nothing, I am 100% in support of Zulum. Lagos needs to be place in the same place with other state. If atall any state needs concentration it should be ABJ and PH. Not this tribal Yoruba Lagos. Rubbish

Please stop adding SS and SE to this your yarn.

It is Yoruba vs north. The tax proposal will not be benefitting any SE or SS state. That the SE and SS are not talking yet, doesn't meant both regions are totally in support of the tax bill.

He is not making any sense. If he complains of VAT sharing model, what about review of Personal tax template,is that also in favour of Lagos State alone?I am a tax man and I understand the content of the bill. There are 2 things I am not comfortable with:
- The incremental review of VAT rate up to 15% in 2030
- Streamlining revenue collection and having FIRS changed to NRS.

There is an aspect of the bill that does not favour Governors and that's why majority of them are kicking about it. The revenue accruable to states would be less ,if well implemented. Whether PAYE or direct assessment, workers that do not earn more than 840k in a year would be totally exempted from tax, this is where most Governors would lose revenue, they know this, they are just hiding behind VAT sharing model to make ' noise'.
There would be public hearing, let them point out the part they are not comfortable with,is it the whole bill that is beneficial to Lagos alone? How can he call on president to withdraw a bill that seeks to exempt businesses with turnover of less N50million per annum from paying corporate tax?
But on the issue of PAYE, most states are civil servant state where people are paid salaries by the government, and most of them are now paying minimum wage of 70k, translating to 840k; with the minimum earning of 800k annually, many states will not lose a dime as they will still get the PAYE of the civil servants.

Lagos may even lose because many private sector company aren't paying above 800k per annum currently; therefore, less PAYE for the state.

Is there any part of Lagos developments that can be attributed either to the business ingenuity of your type, or to the special competitive abilities of a typical agbadorian wreck like you? Is there any part of lagos that is patently a product of agbadorians administrative inventiveness?

If there are, why are you struggling to replicate these "successes" in other areas like the squalid concentration camps of Oshogbo and ogbomosho?
