So what is the essence in of the VAT jack up from 7.5% to 15%...? Also what is the need for tax ID for current account holders, if not to tax the account..? |

Are they expecting us to believe this lie? We were told that the removal of subsidies would fix the economy and make funds available for infrastructure. Today, the economy is wrecked, and there's no infrastructure being built. We were also told that floating the naira would fix the economy, but the naira became worthless. Right now, we are being told that the new tax bill will fix the economy. Tinubu has shown time and time again that he is incompetent, clueless and cannot be trusted. |

Against all odds, If your businesses are growing, expanding within and outside the shores of this country, if our individuals are earning income and thriving even with the not so favorable system in Nigeria, then taxes will be a natural consequence of their prosperity. Just imagine ! |

Summary of what Oyedele said: Every state that contributes enough revenue will begin to receive its fair share. We take oil from your states; you take more. Period. Those opposed to these bills are unwilling to work and contribute. They devised the high population as a means of continuing to take more, and it is time we put an end to it. Period. If you are opposed to this bill and are not from the northern states, you are simply stupid. And you are an illiterate. If you earn between N70,000 and N100,000 and oppose this bill, you are the definition of stupidity. And you will never be wise in your life again. So, mark all those opposing the bills. Take note of comments. It could be a clue to identifying illiterates you should avoid. Some of them may bring businesses to you later...you know what to do. They will ruin any good arrangement you make because they do not understand it and do not want to try. What do you do? Mark them now and avoid them because they are both time bombs and political prey. |

The idea of aligning tax payments with the location of income generation is an important issue that has significant implications for fairness, development, and equity in resource allocation. Here’s an analysis of the claims and how they relate to fiscal policy and taxation reform: 1. Income Tax Should Be Paid Where It Is Generated True in principle, but complex in practice: The logic of taxing individuals where they reside is rooted in the idea that taxes should fund local amenities and services they benefit from. However, income taxes are often centralized in many countries to streamline administration and avoid complications in defining where income is "generated" (e.g., residency vs. work location). Challenges: Many workers live in one state and work in another (e.g., Nassarawa-FCT, Ogun-Lagos). Dividing tax liabilities between states could create disputes over revenue-sharing mechanisms. A decentralized system would require robust frameworks to track and allocate taxes fairly between states, which could increase administrative costs. What can work: A fair revenue-sharing formula between states for personal income tax collected from individuals working in one state but living in another. This approach exists in some federations (e.g., the U.S., where states have tax agreements). --- 2. Taxation of Oil and Gas Companies Current Issues: Locating headquarters in wealthier areas like Abuja (or Lagos) while operating in resource-rich but underdeveloped areas (like the Niger Delta) leads to resource exploitation without adequate benefits returning to the local communities. The Niger Delta suffers environmental degradation, poor infrastructure, and poverty despite hosting the nation’s oil wealth. Reforming Corporate Taxes: Corporate Income Tax (CIT) and royalties from oil companies should directly benefit the host communities. This aligns with the "derivation principle", which states that regions where natural resources are extracted should receive a larger share of the revenue. A restructured system could mandate oil companies to pay a proportion of their taxes to the states where their operations occur, even if their headquarters are elsewhere. Global Examples: Countries like Canada ensure revenue-sharing agreements between federal and provincial governments in resource-rich areas like Alberta. This helps balance development between regions and minimizes exploitation perceptions. --- 3. Implications of Reform Economic Equity: Reforming tax allocation could reduce regional inequalities, ensuring states like the Niger Delta benefit from their natural resources and FCT-adjacent states (e.g., Nassarawa) are not ignored. Fiscal Federalism: Decentralized tax systems that return revenue control to the states where taxes are generated align with the principles of fiscal federalism. Implementation Challenges: Would require a constitutional review in Nigeria to alter current revenue-sharing formulas, as many states depend heavily on allocations from the federal |
