Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has raised concerns about a parliamentary bill in the Senate, suggesting it might be part of a plan for President Bola Tinubu to transition to a Prime Ministerial role after his presidency. Dogara pointed out that the bill is sponsored by a lawmaker from the South West, specifically from Tinubu’s home state, which has fueled speculation about its intent.

Dogara acknowledged these concerns, noting that while parliamentary democracy could potentially be more effective than the presidential system, such proposals risk being driven by personal or regional agendas. He also recounted conversations that further underscored these fears.

Speaking in a live interview with Symfoni, Dogara said:

“The parliamentary bill in the National Assembly is sponsored by someone from the South West, and specifically from the President’s state. Someone asked me, ‘Is this not part of President Tinubu’s plan to transition into a Prime Minister after completing his presidential term?’ I replied, ‘I cannot entirely dismiss this observation—it’s a valid concern.’ While parliamentary democracy may be better than the presidential system, the challenge arises when it appears to be used to advance personal interests.”

Dogara also shared another perspective:

“I received a call from someone who pointed out that this effort is being led by Honorable Abdul Samad from the caliphate, and suggested it aims to ensure that the North could consistently produce the Prime Minister. The person said, ‘This was the issue that led us to abandon the parliamentary system in the first place.’ I responded, ‘Perhaps that’s a legitimate concern.’ These discussions highlight the difficulty of having rational and objective conversations in the context of our nation’s complex dynamics.”

Dogara emphasized the need for caution and transparency in such initiatives to ensure they serve national interests rather than personal or regional ambitions.

I'd agree with you, because the way he is administering the country vis-a-vis the numerous bills here and there is part of his divide and rule tactics.

All these shenanigans na to heat up polity and cause more distrust across regions,we all go see the end.

You the creator of this bill why do you want to takeout Kwara from the North? Why must you snatched Northern land just because Northerners allow your brothers to settle there?

You should please consider relocating your brothers and sisters to Oduduwa and leave Northern land alone. Because I believe Northerners will never give out any inch of their land to anyone.
