By working together, we can create a thriving ecosystem that promotes Nigerian creativity, supports local talent, and provides consumers with access to high-quality, legitimate streaming services.
I think is high time we also have our own streaming platforms for sports, movies, entertainment if we get the right stakeholders and passion but alaba boys no go allow us drink water drop cup, but God pass them if we can establish robust copyright laws and enforcement mechanisms, educate consumers about the importance of supporting legitimate streaming platforms and collaborate with stakeholders, including content creators, distributors, and government agencies, to develop a sustainable digital entertainment industry.
The question you should be asking is are people watching Nigerian content? These streaming platforms aren’t philanthropic organizations, they won’t renew series that people don’t watch.

I’ve never watched a Nigerian flick on Netflix, I won’t lie. It’s like telling me to pay to go and watch a Nigerian league game when I have a choice of watching the premier league at home.

It's clear that the current state of Nollywood is underwhelming. The storylines have become predictable and lack depth, making it easy to guess the ending before the movie even starts.

I want to emphasize that my criticism is not directed at any particular tribe, but rather at the industry as a whole. However, I do think that the influx of southwest influence in Nollywood lately has contributed to its decline in global reputation. The industry had gained international recognition and respect when it was all Igbos affairs, but it seems to have lost its way in recent years.
Tribalist
Re: Netflix Stops Buying Nigerian Content - Kunle Afolayan by tunapawizzy: 6:51pm On Dec 04, 2024
it is very simple...Netflix was buying because Nigerians were buying subscription to watch indigeneous movies. Nigerians are broke right now from TPain wahala, subscription dun reduce, why would Netflix keep buying what they cannot sell.
Re: Netflix Stops Buying Nigerian Content - Kunle Afolayan by MadeMan01(m): 6:51pm On Dec 04, 2024
Do you blame them? With half baked storylines and acting, overhyped actors and razz actresses. I personally have never used my money to watch Nigerian movie. Afolayan was one of the few good ones. I bought dvd of Figurine

U this ibo people and ethnic bigot. cool

With ur bia-fra analysis.

How many blockbuster are been produced by ibo compare to Yoruba.

Last year alone 9 out of 10 blockbuster Netflix are Yoruba movies.

Most Ibo films are the most predictable always ritual and no content.

It like u and like most of ur tribal bigot have not recovered from peter obi electoral defeat.

Kunle and his kinsmen hijacked this Netflix ng and has been churning out substandard contents

They don’t care how good your movies are, once you can’t speak their language, nothing for you

You are so hypocritical. "You aren't accusing anyone but Mr A and Mrs C are responsible." Jeezzz!!! Who raised you?
There was never a time Nollywood was an "igbo affair" everyone contributed to the industry. Even the North pitched in. But the moment tribalist and bigots like you came into the picture (like is currently going on in every aspect of Nigerian society), things start to fall apart.

Netflix throttled down on Nollywood because Nigerians ARE NOT SUBSCRIBING to the platform as much as the investment Netflix was spending on film makers to produce Nigerian films. It is a business decision, and not a tribal situation you created in your head.
Nigerians are NOT subscribing because the ECONOMY IS BAD and people will rather spend the little they have on surviving, instead of renewing Netflix subscription.

Nah! The wages of sin is not death. Everyone must die either you sin or not. Death is a progression of a life/soul's journey. It's natural.

little to zero ROI based on the declining purchasing power of the average nigerian. its not the big men in an economy that makes it successful but rather how well the middle class is especially when the price of the goods or services is not even that high to begin with in the first place like netflix.

i think we are going to see many of these companies pull out as nigeria is not ready for them yet and may never be to be completely honest. we are just too poor.

When the movies they are producing aren't attracting global consumers, also majority of Nigeria Netflix users are borrowing logins or bypassing the subscription...

Netflix is still ok. I spent long period of time looking for a good naija movie to watch. Nothing after finishing reading the story lines. Then I just go straight to watch some good horror movies grin

Or re-watch tears of the sun, Lion heart, half a yellow sun or beast of no nation cheesy, nap off somewhere as the movies continue till I go back to horror movies grin

Anikulapo was kinda boring me that l no longer bothered to click it.

I think I now understand why many of them now embrace YouTube. If YouTube decides to stop paying Nigerian movie producers today, e don be because nobody is going back to decoders and cable tv
They can't.
Not with the million+ views Nigerian movies generate on YouTube within days after uploading.
Other African countries, including the Caribbeans can't do without Nigerian movies, and Nigerians deliver.
Nigerian movie producers give YouTube good content.

The most successful nollywood actors are:

Kunle Afolayan

Funke Akindele

Shun bitterness and envy. It killed many of your blodas this year alone.

Why won't they cancel it.

When majority of our Nollywood movies lack strong storyline.

No plot
No story
No message

Our movies just show breast, butt, good looks with just one single common storyline.

When it comes to storyline, e no dey pass love stories and juju.

No creativity.

No moral message.

They should go and upload it on their YouTube channel and stop disturbing Netflix managers.

Nigerian Movie producers need to think outside the box. Do something different. I was even thinking by now, our movies would enter BET. But no.

I'm a Scriptwriter yet I don't like watching most Nigerian movies because I can always predict the end.
There is a reason why movies like this made it to Netflix.

I think I now understand why many Nigerian movie producers and their audience ran to YouTube. YouTube is Netflix biggest competitor in Nigeria and that's because YouTube is free (with ads of course). So, Nigerians are neither subscribing on YouTube nor Netflix to see their Nollywood movies. Buying data is already by the grace of God. Make YouTube premium ($13/monthly) mandatory on YouTube, and watch Nigerians return to NTA with the speed of light.

Dstv is not even an option because both the producer and the audience are not willing to go back to Egypt (i.e., decoders and cable TV).
You have the most reasonable perspective thus far. You must be an economist.
