What we're witnessing is the effect of devaluing our currency on businesses. It has increased running cost especially for foreign inputs while the revenue generated no matter how humongous it sounds is pittance when converted.
I said it then that it was the currency that was dstv's major problem not subscribers or content. How do you pay for epl licence of almost $200m last year at N400 and then this year at N1700 for the same audience. It will affect your bottom line

whether they are leaving or not is immaterial. the truth is that this is not the best of times for any online paid streaming platform in Nigeria. With 1700, I have access to YouTube Premium. Plus there are other countless trial or free apps that give me what dstv and Netflix will give me. So why pay?

It is a very trying time for them in Nigeria. Na who eat bellyful dey buy data and na who get plenty data dey sub for netflix.

Give me data that shows that 5 years ago Netflix subscribers were large and then it suddenly fall to a level where they won’t even break even.

I agree there is inflation, but we never got the culture of subscribing in the first place. Ever since Netflix got to Nigeria, we only contribute less than 20% of their Africa market size.

This your idea of blaming Nigerians for any economic challenge faced by businesses is abnormal o. So it's because Nigerians don't like subscribing that Netflix is losing money. What about dstv? Are they also losing money because Nigerians don't like subscribing?
Has Netflix reported a loss of subscribers? Don't you think it's people that have disposable income that week subscribe to luxury like Netflix? Netflix subscribers have been rising. The problem is the currency devaluation which affects the value they get for their investments.
Meanwhile, In which planet does a streaming platform starts to cancel sponsorship contracts it already had with producers and shushes them out the door. It is not normal. It's a sign of distress

My guess is that, with Nigeria's massive population, they expected their market share to be higher. One of the main reasons for this low number is the lack of availability of affordable unlimited internet for the masses. The cost of data is still relatively expensive. And majority access the internet via their data on their phones. While the other countries have real broadband internet.

Bottom line is, these companies are out to make a profit. And if Netflix cannot attain that in Nigeria, they will eventually leave the country.
