A true reflection of our society. While we rush to promote and encourage foolish programs like big brother in a country lacking in moral values etc, what do you expect to come out of such a society?
What they telling us is, it is better to be morally bankrupt than to pursue knowledge for the betterment of the society! We never see anything yet! This foolishness go reach everybody!!!

₦13,000 to the best graduating student in 2024? Same thing university of uyo did in the just concluded convocation awarding a meagre ₦30,000 to their best graduating student in 2024. It's embarrassing to see the university's administration display such blatant disregard for the hard work and achievements of its students. The money these people made in this school and even during the whole convocation is so huge, but you see them shamelessly giving peanuts to the best graduating student. They Reduce education to much ridicules and taunting. Zero appreciation for hard work.

It's hypocritical for the same individuals who are calling for increased salaries from the federal government to be so stingy when it comes to recognizing and rewarding the achievements of their students.

The problem of Nigeria is not just the leaders but also the followers, this is a clear example.
First of all, a cash gift been given to the overall best graduating student by a university is optional and not mandatory. Some schools that give huge funds to the person is not a factor of the school but rather in partnership with individuals/corporate that is providing the funds.

So, I see no reason why anyone should drag the school in question since it's not binding not defined for any school not to talk of federal school to do such.

I also do not think that anyone that graduated as the overall best did so with an expectation of a cash reward. If there is anyone that have such mindset, I laugh in Swahili. Nobody owes you jack. You make your wealth by yourself, hustle by your self.

With this few points of mine, I hope I have not been able to confuse you but to convince you that this is not meant to be news.

Thank you.

Maybe that's what is written in the school constitution. If it is so, it is puré wickedness if it wasn't reviewd before the award. The University must be shameless.

He should have included the name of the University, make Nigerians teach them small sense

The reward for diligent work in academics can never be sun up in great cash prizes.

Otherwise the awardee will not utilize the education ! One may argue that the prize ought to be substantial but we must be careful not to set precedence that academic excellence Is rewarded instantly with financial gift!

We can say whoever wants to gift must gift to encourage others not to add disdain to it.

NO ! Your educational success is the prize, there is no incentive for educational excellence other than the rewards and fulfillment one gets from practical application of it.

Why can't they give him at least 200k.
Should the overall best graduating student in a primary school should even receive 13k.

I believe most of these awards were created years ago and kept in trust for winners. However, due to the fx rates the prizes no longer have significant value. As at the time the awards were created say 30 years ago, the amounts were significant

People should know that the money is not what matters. What matters is the achievement and the record. They can still award him best graduating student without giving him a dime and still nothing will happen..
