What this bill has shown is that many of us are not aware that there are other taxes apart from VAT. Below is a comment I shared elsewhere where someone argued that because companies have headquarters in Lagos and have operations elsewhere, they'd pay double VAT in Lagos and elsewhere. The person also argued that VAT collected on cars imported through Lagos may end up being payable to Lagos.



I think it is time for us to now hear from tax lawyers. What is going on is a cacophony of misinformation, disinformation, fabricated information, sophistry and dangerous rumour-mongering.

Let tax lawyers educate us properly, please.

It's a cool bill even though I no see anything for this Mr Tpain government.
Benefit include lower income earner that earn lower than 800k won't be paying tax.
Small Medium enterprises that earn less that 50m won't be paying tax.
State will earn 60% of the money based on it contribution.
state that their contribution is low receive less.
E.g unlike before wey northern states dey help other state share VAT on beer and alcohol which Dem don barn for dia side dis one no go dey dia again .
Meaning you can only receive compensation on the amount of goods you sell in your state unlike the old VAT.
This will encourage each state to build companies, factories etc as a means of earning more.
Can you see why northern governors kicked against this ?
They still want to keep enjoying VAT on alcohol from fed govt and they no allow the sales of all this items

The ones that are aginst it are the ones that have used romancing banditry to chase people out of their region. So low economic activity in their region means less money for the politicians(governor and his crew) to share. The lazy governors that cant generate income for their state are also fighting it.
