nairamaniac:True that. As an OG when it comes to hip-hop, some of those you listed right above are part of my all-time BEST rap artistes since I started listening to party rap and battle rap in the 1980s (including LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane, Kool Moe Dee, ICE-T)... I can affirm that you and I share the same thought pattern here. Coincidentally right on this thread page, I listed MI as one of my world-class rappers of Nigerian Diasporan or Nigerian descent. |

Konquest:Yeah. Steel recognize steel for sure. .. The battle raps between LL and Kool Moe Dee kept me spell bound from 1987 till LL ended it all with MAMA SAID KNOCK U OUT (1990). LL was just too smooth. My best from LL was I NEED AROUND THE WAY GIRL. I was also locked in by DOUG E FRESH at some point in the 80's. 1990 came with Pete Rock & CL Smooth. Rap was pure Creativity&delivery at its finest. |

nairamaniac:That's mad cool... "STEEL recognizes STEEL." This brings back a lot of nostalgia. Indeed, those of us who were born within the lower-end Baby Boomers and Gen X who witnessed the early roaring years of rap and hip-hop history from the early 1980s right into the 1990s till this moment (2020s) are the real MVPs who have a BETTER perspective about who the all-time BEST rappers are. Without listing LL Cool J, Kool Moe Dee, Kurtis Blow, Pete Rock, and other OGs, you can tell that MOST posters on this thread have limited understanding of the full force of rap and hip-hop history. A top 30 list CANNOT even do justice to the BEST, all-time rappers. A top 50 would be the minimum. Kool Moe Dee listed his top 50 all-time BEST rappers (male and female) in his 2003 book There's a God on the Mic: The True 50 Greatest MCs without MC Hammer being on that list though. For me, "Hammer" being a world-class entertainer and hip-hop artiste is in my top 10 all-time for his deft, muscular stage performances and I felt he was underrated by Kool Moe Dee in that book. I earlier posted on page 7 of this thread the LL COOL J - "Around The Way Girl" (Official Music Video). The Lisas, Angelas, Pamelas, Renees, and more absolutely loved the music track back then. Just clean, topical lyrical flows... No cussing. That's what makes LL my best all-time till date. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sm36viw6q1U?si=Q4Xy9lUPFAVZEPRM I appreciate our insightful convo here... Enjoy your day. Ciao. |

femi4:Keep their heads ringing was my best song for the year 1995. And this was a great year in hip hop. Same year we had TUPAC's ME AGAINST THE WORLD ALBUM, Same year we had great soundtrack albums in BAD BOYS(The movie) Soundtrack. Same year we had FRIDAY(the movie) soundtrack. And for real, DRE Killed the beats. KEEP THEIR HEADS RINGING was Truely my best song for that particular year. And back then I hardly ever had just one song amongst many being "the best song all through a particular year". Copy Konquest |

Konquest:Yeahhh. So much nostalgia indeed. Top 50 wouod definitely do more justice. Even that same Kool Moe Dee would be in that TOP 30 to whatever list. He was sooo gooood Though iv not seen his list, but I want to believe that monie love should be amongst he women in that list. MONIE LOVE was even better than MC LYTE and Queen Latifah in terms of talents. Well, my opinion MC hapmmer should be in my TOP 10 RAP/HIPHOP-ENTERTAINER list. Not necessarily in TOP10 best rappers. I was more of a Phylosophical, Lyrical, Hardcore, story telling, high vocabulary, e.g (Keith Murray) flowing with the beats (CANDENCE) Rhyme schemes Dexterity (change of pace/speed in delivery) kind of person. and MC hammer hardly fell itops nto the above categories. However, MC hammer had the most impact as an artist, rapper in the late 80's and early 90's. He even stole the shine off Bobby Brown at some point. So you had talked about AROUND THE WAY GIRL in this same thread? Wow!!!! That was a Hit!! Those LL Cool J songs thot me how to treat women with respect and gangstar-vibes at the same time. LL was just different. U brought back wonderful memories here bruv. Cheers and Thanx!!!!! |

Reloadedisraelp:Nas should be anybody's TOP 3. And I knew this since like 1996. Nas has the most intelligent RAP SONG ever made in history. And that song is ONE MIC. Honestly if anyone tries to understand any full album of NAS, you are likely to run mad before the very end of your adventure. |
| Re: Snoop Dogg Names His Top Three Rappers Of All Time, Sparking Debate by nairamaniac: 3:12am On Dec 04, 2024*. Modified: 4:53am On Dec 04, 2024 |
blowjohn:I agree 100% with all you said here. And I don't think you can know or love NAS as much as I do. Nas has been clearly my most intelligent lyricist since the 90's. Iv been giving NAS props in this same nairaland for more than 10years. And Nas's ONE MIC has always been the most INTELLIGENT RAP SONG ever made in history. But the thing is *I guess you are just more of into hardcore or pure-black Culture in your perspective of what Rap should be, that's why you exclude Eminem in your list*. There was none of those rappers you mentioned up there that I didn't bop my head to or listened attentively to. None. You really have no idea. But in as much as my idea of rap mirrors yours in many ways, I can never totally relegate Eminem to be in the same sentence with the word "abysmal". NEVER EVER. You know why? Cos Eminem did even better than most of those pure black rappers you mentioned here in songs that he needed to be UNCOMEDIC. In songs that he didn't want to be funny. Sir, in songs like: 1. Renegade 2. Song for the moment. 3. Loose yourself 4. Toy soldiers. and several others. You see my brother, I was spoilt with pure hardcore rap songs growing up. But you see that white boy called Eminem. He is all those your favorite rapper's favourite rapper. |

blowjohn:I 100% agree. Snoop wasn't the best rapper even in DOGGY STYLE album. Kurrupt and Daz were wayyyy better lyricist. But the thing is from like 1992 to 1995, Snoop had the most unique voice&style in rap music. |
| Re: Snoop Dogg Names His Top Three Rappers Of All Time, Sparking Debate by nairamaniac: 3:36am On Dec 04, 2024 |

oroje1:Snoop should be in the TOP-3 in THE LIST OF RAPPERS THAT HAVE INFLUENCED THEIR RESPCTIVE ERAS: That list should be(in no particular order) 1. Tupac 2. Snoop 3. Eminem Of course anyone can add or remove from this list. We are all entitled to our opinions based on our growing-paths. |

Marc3500:People really underrate Eminem cos he's a comedic rapper in most or almost all his songs. The white boy is a lyricist and this is coming from a hardcore hip-hop head. |

Ishilove:Ishilove are you really serious that you don't know ANDRE 3000? A member of the group called OUTCAST. This first album was southernplayerlisticcardilacmusic. . Kaiiii, I can never forget what that album did to me the very year it came out. That should be like 94. |

blowjohn:Same here. And every other best I have is in same line with Nas. One Mic, Is the most intelligent and mathematical Rapsong ever made in history. What he did with the second verse has never been done in a rapsong Back then, wen perps were comparing Nas and Jay-Z, I felt they had mental issues. |

Konquest:Ohhhhhh myyyyy God! I had to go do a thorough investigation from page one of this thread till the end of you really posted anything about AROUND THE WAY GIRL. Honestly, your rap-taste mirrors . and n sooooo many ways. I could rap more than half of that song by LL. I wrote the song in my rap book by playing, pausing and rewinding to make it happen. Wow!!!!! |

Ishilove:Hmmmmmm Andre 3000 is a bahd ass rapper The group outcast were the first popular rap group from ATL. They came with their own unique flow, style and instrumentals I had their very first album the very year they came out. That very year. nd also their first single PLAYER'S BALL was a Hit And played everyday in my walkman. Even the great Eminem mentioned ANDRE 3000 in his list of best rappers on his song TILL MY BONES COLLAPSE. Feat. NATE DOGG from the EMINEM SHOW album. |

nairamaniac:Good take Sir. Am happy u mentioned Renegade. Another song Eminem did well was 'say what you say' feat Dr. dre. Now.. Think back... Has Eminem had a verse as intense and as intelligent since Renegade? That's what am talking about when I say Eminem's content is abysmal. Or maybe a better description is that his songs are difficult to relate to in terms of mature content. I believe it's because of the way he grew up. I mean obviously, one cannot rap about the things he wasn't involved in. But then again, remember that many of the greatest rappers studied a lot of science, religion, politics etc and they are able to input it in their songs very intelligently and artistically. Eminem don't have such. It's just the same themes over and over in his last 6 albums and more. Gza, rakim, Nas, jay etc make use if the English language so well. Even push t who to me is a C list rapper has more intelligent Personifications than Eminem. Whenever Eminem tries to sound clever with his metaphors, Personifications, and other literally devices,it just ends up falling short intellectually appealing. Eminem doesn't have the kind of Nas lines like: Steak tartare bloody, mercury levels from raw fish Sushi for lunch, waiter at the table, the cork twist I admit tho, Eminem's word play is ridiculous. Very ridiculous. But then again if u notice, Eminem and big L focus a lot on word play but the difference is that big L has more intelligent and mature use of the words. Eminem will awe u momentarily but at the end come off as a bit childish. If eminem had continued in the line of renegade type verses... Trust me he would be in my top 15 at the very least. Respect for ur assessment and submissions Sir. |

Konquest:Salute you back bruv. Rap was indeed our second most influential means of education outside basic schooling. For sure monielove wdnt make such official list. For she didn't have the longevity or standout albums like the Queen and LYTE did. I would take my times to watch this video of his TOP50 soonest. There are some rappers that should definitely be there we haven't really mentioned well in this very thread. Redman and Keith Murray. Qtip, MC Ren (from NWA). MC REN was a beast on the mic. He stood pound for pound with Ice cube in NWA while cube was still in the group. But I know he wdnt be there. The usual jcoles and Kendrick of recent schools wd definitely be in any TOP50 if the list is redone in this very year and current-time. It's sad that Lucas Joyner isn't being spoken about on the same level as Kendrick and jcole. It's really a pity. Cos he has all it takes to be on the same with these two cats. Joyner is really really really good. He's one hell of a genius. Lauryn Hill (arguably the best female rapper ever). Forget that she did other genres sooo well along with rap. The Brooklyn female is arguably the best female MC ever. She should be there for sure. Rob base, Doug E fresh, Tony Loc. deserve to be mentioned. At least some of them. Much love and respect from me to you ALWAYS!!! |

Marc3500:They have both been in my top3 to Top5 in the last 20years I can't directly compare both. Never. Nas is inspired by both poetry and literature. Eminem grew up wanting to be a cartoonisT, alot of people didn't know about this. Eminem grew up writing stories about cartoon characters in his quiet times as a child, hence his flare for al those crazy things he says in his rap. So why would i compare someone who is 100% serious to someone who is like 20% serious? But one thing I know is that Nas definitely has more matured and human-concerning lyrics most times. Even more than Eminem. But 2 basic things Eminem has more than Nas and maybe every other rapper that ever existed in our lifetime are CADENCE and RHYMES SCHEMES. SEEE EHHHN, You see these 2 Eminem songs I attached here soooo. No rapper ever in the history of rap, including Nas has ever ever ever ever had these sort of CADENCE in a RAP SONG https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8E3Dh-gfhM&pp=ygUTdGhlIHdheSBpIGFtIGVtaW5lbQ%3D%3D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lexLAjh8fPA&pp=ygUTdG95IHNvbGRpZXJzIGVtaW5lbQ%3D%3D Copy Konquest

| Re: Snoop Dogg Names His Top Three Rappers Of All Time, Sparking Debate by Konquest: 8:30am On Dec 05, 2024 |
nairamaniac:I absolutely agree with your takes in the FIRST and SECOND paragraphs right above. It's even a great thing that most of the early iconic rappers from the 1980s right into the 1990s were MOSTLY born in the Generation X era (from 1965 right till 1980) and parts of the lower end of the "Baby Boomers" era (lower pre-1965), so, seeing OGs who had similarities with us in age made it all relatable and it synched with going to school and then learning how to rap after seeing and listening to the "cool cats" of our generation churning out party rap and battle rap lyrics. As of 2020 alone, 11 MAJOR rappers had turned 50 years of age on earth and that speaks to the contributions of the "Gen X" era to the history of rap and hip-hop. Thanks for the recent mentions here (including the recent one on the comparisons between Eminem and NAS in the area of cadence). Eminem in indeed lit in the area of cadence and he's got great vocal inflections. The two videos indeed showed quintessential Eminem's worth as you CLEARLY stated in the area of CADENCE... Dude was and is still mad cool. Big props! |

blowjohn:I'm just seeing this your post now now sooo. Today sooo. And you are Soo right. Truely, rappers lyrics are a reflection of their environment, history and RACIAL-CULTURE. And Eminem cants keep up with other black rap greats in that regard. That's why in recent times we can all relate with DAVE(Nigerian British) rapper, cos his knowledge of his history is deep and he applies it sooo well in his songs. Even if he's probably not amongst the best rappers. Concerning, renegade; Eminem went all out crazy, poetic, religious, fantastic word play, more cadence than Jay-z, tooo good for Jay-z to handle, adhered more to the theme/purpose of the song. And he's had some other songs as serious and touching on renegade's level. E.g Loose yourself. Quite enough for someone who is not considered a true-rap-lyricslcist. No matter how weaknesses, his strengths should place him on anybody's TOP-5. The only crappy to me that is on Eminem's level of Wordplay&candence to me is THE NOTORIOUS BIG. And BIGGY Probably has made the best RAP ALBUM EVER called LIFE AFTER DEATH. That's the BIBLE OF RAP MUSIC. |
