Who did we offend?
Subscription has reduced drastically in Nigeria. So they cannot be paying for production. It has to do with the value of naira

Netflix is still ok. I spent long period of time looking for a good naija movie to watch. Nothing after finishing reading the story lines. Then I just go straight to watch some good horror movies grin

Or re-watch tears of the sun, Lion heart, half a yellow sun or beast of no nation cheesy, nap off somewhere as the movies continue till I go back to horror movies grin

Anikulapo was kinda boring me that l no longer bothered to click it.
I really enjoyed half of a yellow sun. I'll see that movie again someday.

For now, I'm good with IPTV

You see this modest movie? It hit a million views in less than a week of its release.

Nigeria isn't ready for streaming service like Netflix.... I personally never used it..... Poor economy... Terrible network, poor and expensive Data allocation by network providers, Most of Netflix contents are available Free online

I'm actually a Netflix subscriber. Sadly the only Nigerian movie I've watched on Netflix is shanty town. The rest are all foreign series

Just imagine.
How then can we tell stories our way/promote our own, when we don't even value our originality?

Acidosis:
Economy don hit them badly. How can a nation of over 180 million people have only about 200k active subscribers? Even that number is questionable given recent economic trends.

I think I now understand why many Nigerian movie producers and their audience ran to YouTube. YouTube is Netflix biggest competitor in Nigeria and that's because YouTube is free (with ads of course). So, Nigerians are neither subscribing on YouTube nor Netflix to see their Nollywood movies. Buying data is already by the grace of God. Make YouTube premium ($13/monthly) mandatory to a Nigerian audience and watch Nigerians return to NTA with the speed of light.

Dstv is not even an option because both the producer and the audience are not willing to go back to Egypt (i.e., decoders and cable TV).
grin grin grin grin grin grin

Me self, I still dey pirate movies. hahah

How will they not stop, Hollywood declined and is dead zero creativity, it is same storyline over and over again, they bring in all this gen z Boyz and girls with zero talents and they come in to play the role of either a poor houseboy or gateman that that will later marry the madam, then for the women it is either one girl acting as a razz street girl wey dey speak yeye slangs to later marry a rich boy, e no pass like that, there is absolutely nothing entertaining in nollywood movies again ever since the veterans the likes of sam loco, osufia, okey bakassi etc era stopped this new generation na wacks.

It's clear that the current state of Nollywood is underwhelming. The storylines have become predictable and lack depth, making it easy to guess the ending before the movie even starts.

I want to emphasize that my criticism is not directed at any particular tribe, but rather at the industry as a whole. However, I do think that the influx of southwest influence in Nollywood lately has contributed to its decline in global reputation. The industry had gained international recognition and respect when it was all Igbos affairs, but it seems to have lost its way in recent years.
Very stupid comment.
You started well but ended like a nonetity.
Just too bad

People from South East are the main culprit. If it was a success you attribute it to igbos but if otherwise you push blame to others. Lazy bone

The economy is the issue. Nigerians cannot afford to subscribe to Netflix due to the exchange rate that has devastated purchasing power.
Netflix family plan was N1.2 moved up gradually to 1700,1800,2400 then jumped to the current 7000 and rising! All this we are talking about is based on a paltry $4 ohh!
Nigerians cannot afford $4 monthly subscription, so why will Netflix waste money buying Nigerian content on a falling subscriber base of 200k out of a population of 200m? Even me sef have stopped paying.

I’m not a bigot but we all know who to blame for this
Kunle and his kinsmen hijacked this Netflix ng and has been churning out substandard contents

They don’t care how good your movies are, once you can’t speak their language, nothing for you
Why use the word hijacked, why can’t asabawood work on showing their movies on Netflix, that shows that their movies are low budget and below Netflix requirements…Learn not to blame others for ur defect…
