Eye Service At The Place Of Work by Truvelisback(op): 2:40pm On Dec 05, 2024
Good day, fellas. I have come to realize that those who do eye service or are hypocritical with their jobs are more regarded than those who sincerely or faithful do their jobs. i.e They easily get promoted or rewarded.

This has nothing to do with any tribe. Most employers are easily carried away with these guys. Only very few employers are smart and sensitive.

Welcome to the real world. Where your values will be tested with what others have. You may not go far if you are principled but you won't go far away from your peace and confidence. A lot of people are compromised and it will get to a time when people know that only you can say the truth without caring whose ox is gored. However, you must be ready to pay the price. The thing with those people who do eye service is that they are like the police, they don't trust each other and may one day discharge accidental bullets on each other. That's their squid games.

On this topic, I don't think its black or white.
I think a person should be sensible and realistic. Personally, I'm not an eye service kind of person, but at the same time, I'm realistic enough to know I have to do a bit of it to get far in my career.
You must be a "team-player". I'm not corrupt, but neither am I a puritan.
In general, don't be out of place, else you will booted out of the place.

People confuse eye-service with honesty... When you are newly employed, the zeal to be honest and upright is there.

The old workers there start to feel like you are doing "eye-service" and they hate you.

I'm not tribalistic, but trust me. Igbo people are more prone to eye service in workplace than any other counterpart I've ever worked with.

It's frustrating and demotivating when you feel that your hard work and dedication are overlooked, while others who may not be as sincere or faithful in their job responsibilities seem to get ahead.

This phenomenon is often referred to as the "politics of the workplace" or "office politics." It's a reality that many professionals face, where success is not solely determined by merit, but also by one's ability to navigate the social dynamics of the workplace.

Here are some possible reasons why this might be happening:

1. *Visibility: Those who engage in eye service or hypocrisy may be more visible to their superiors or influential colleagues, which can lead to more opportunities for advancement.
2. *Networking: Building relationships with the right people can be crucial for career advancement. Those who are skilled at building relationships and networking may be more likely to get promoted or rewarded.
3. *Perception: Unfortunately, perception can be reality in the workplace. If someone is perceived as being more competent or capable, they may be more likely to get ahead, even if they're not actually doing a better job.
4. *Lack of accountability: In some organizations, there may be a lack of accountability, which can allow individuals to get away with doing the minimum while still appearing to be productive.

It's essential to remember that you can't control how others behave or how they're perceived. What you can control is how you react to the situation and how you choose to approach your own career development.

Here are some suggestions:

1. *Focus on your work: Continue to do your job to the best of your ability, and focus on delivering high-quality results.
2. *Build your skills: Invest in your own professional development by taking courses, attending workshops, or seeking out mentorship opportunities.
3. *Network authentically: Build relationships with your colleagues and superiors based on mutual respect and trust. Don't try to fake it or be someone you're not.
4. *Seek feedback: Ask for feedback from your superiors or colleagues to understand areas where you can improve and to get a sense of how you're perceived in the organization.
5. *Consider a new opportunity: If you feel that your hard work and dedication are consistently being overlooked, it may be time to explore new job opportunities where your skills and work ethic are valued.

You need a little eye service before you can be successfully at a place of work,You will never be successfully no matter how good you are if your boss doesn't like you.

Office Politics is one of the courses taught in some organisations now. Hard skills is never enough.

See, you have to acquire emotional intelligence by nurture and use it to your strategic advantage.

It is not hypocrisy or eye service as you call it. Humans are social beings so you need to learn how to connect with people. Relationship is key.
