Some of them have never worked in a huge organization,you will be like a ghost and nobody will even notice you if you don’t add a little eye service to your job.Your boss won’t even know you exist no matter how good you are and the worse is,he might even feel threatened if you are too serious or quiet.

See, you have to acquire emotional intelligence by nurture and use it to your strategic advantage.

It is not hypocrisy or eye service as you call it. Humans are social beings so you need to learn how to connect with people. Relationship is key.

Being good at what you do is great but dedication at work place matters alot to Nigerian employers. While I will condemn any employer who ask you to come on weekends or spend extra hours withiout overtime payment, it is important to note that if once in awhile your job requires you to work on weekend or stay extra hours, you can just do that to get what you want, especially where such attribute is often taking as a stepping stone for promotion.

Once you reach the pinnacle of your career, no employer will treat you that way. Infact, they will be the ones begging you to accept your own term. You can't just get to that point withiout alot of sacrifices that will looks like exploitation. Those you called asslickers understand this concept, they knew you have to sacrifice alot to get to the top of their career( especially if you are a man).

What if you still meet the same problem elsewhere? From my experience, it's a game. The secret is that, some folks do anything to win the heart ❤️ of their superiors either by hook or by crook. E.g like gifting superiors things or money 💰. Don't be surprised, these guys may come late to work, or they may chose to be absent from work but their superiors may ignore it. But the same may not be for that punctual guy who may be hardworking or diligent with his or her job.

On this topic, I don't think its black or white.
I think a person should be sensible and realistic. Personally, I'm not an eye service kind of person, but at the same time, I'm realistic enough to know I have to do a bit of it to get far in my career.
You must be a "team-player". I'm not corrupt, but neither am I a puritan.
In general, don't be out of place, else you will booted out of the place.

That is if you allow them to leave you behind. Most times, all these eye service people or cliques at the workplace are non achievers outside the office. Even in the office, they are not really achievers. Just do your thing. Go and establish your business and prosper. Don't hang around failures.
