New French Jet; French Military Base Rumor by Jagabanbattle(op): 12:27pm On Dec 07, 2024
Now that northerners have insisted that romance between President Tinubu and France is suspicious and it’s likely French military base will be stationed in North. I believe they have their reasons. Also, with the newly said acquired France military jets. Who will operate them?

If Nigeria seek foreign help in securing our borders to curb insecurity, I will support them. I’m in for anything this Government does. Also, the North has promised to resist. They have all right to resist, it’s their father’s land.

There’s many places that need such security, Plateau, Kwara, Benue, Kogi. As long as these states stakeholders accept, what next? Also, we are interested in one here in South West.

The mighty Saudi Arabia today is being protected by USA. Who are we to reject foreign help as long as we secure a favorable deal?

Mention one African country where French soldiers are stationed that has successfully ended insurgency / terrorism. The French are the real plunders, worst than the British.

I’m sorry though. Truly, some group of people doesn’t represent the voice of a region. I believe north needs this more than anything. We are not a conquered territory of France. Why will our relationship with France result in that of Francophone countries.

Who would operate them? In a country that has been operating Alpha jets for about 40 years now?

The Nigerian Air Force acquired its fleet of Dassault-Dornier Alpha Jet aircraft in the early 1980s. The first 24 Alpha Jets were delivered in 1982, and they were used for both training and light attack missions. In 2011, four of the Alpha Jets were upgraded with new avionics and weapons systems.

Alpha jets based in Yola and Maiduguri are flying combat missions in their own country against bandits, terrorists, and insurgents.
In 2013, the Nigerian Air Force began to take measures to refurbish 13 of its Alpha jets. Two were sent to Niamey, Niger to support a multi-national peacekeeping force there. But one crashed fatally in an accident that May of that year.
Four additional unarmed Alpha jets were acquired in 2015 by the Goodluck Jonathan-led administration from the United States. In 2020, nine more Alpha Jets were reactivated after being mothballed for several years. As of 2023, the Nigerian Air Force has 11 Alpha Jets in service.

In July 2023, Sofema, which specialises in reconditioned military equipment, began studying a plan to rehabilitate French Alpha Jets for the Nigerian Air Force.

If two were deployed for use in 2013 and one crashed out of it, then we do not have quality experts to operate latest model of alpha jets. In the long run, they will be thought. We learn everyday. All this is just a rumor.
